Hi all: I want to take advantage of the 25% discount currently available through tomorrow May 10 and purchase a Pro license of Studio One 5 for my daughter. She has a Mac running Big Sur 11.2 and after downloading and installing the latest free version of the software (yesterday) she has not been able to get any sound or connect to her midi keyboard.

If I buy the software for her will it be a waste of money or is a there a sure-fire way of getting it working properly on her Mac laptop? I know nothing about Macs so I can't give her any advice about what to do.

Lastly, she also has access to a Dell laptop running Windows 10/64. Do you have to buy either the Mac or the PC version or when you buy the license can you download either? If you install the Mac version and find that it is flaky can you still download the PC version and install that?

Thanks for any advice

Without the specifics of what she has done it's hard to give any advice. We don't know if it was set up incorrectly or configured incorrectly.

It should work, you could always ask for a refund if you have issues. She can install studio one on the mac and the Windows laptop no extra cost.

Don't forget to upgrade the audio interface firmware and drivers.

Assuming that all installation instructions were followed correctly. Is anyone else running the software without problems under this scenario?

I think it should work. Does your daughter use any other DAW or music software? In other words, do the sound and MIDI keyboard work with other software?

My daughter uses Garage Band with an Axiom 49 midi controller and a Presonus AudioBox USB 96 interface and it works well.

I'll have to get together with her today over Zoom and have her share her screen with me so that I can see what she is doing exactly.

Just get her to update the drivers and firmware. Not sure about axiom (she can Google for compatibility and updates) but the Presonus is done via universal control (and that will need updating first).

Mac Big Sur, M1 chip is a new experimental product. It's obvious that 99.9% of softwares out there will not work until they make a next version with costly IT programing to blend in OS Big sur.
The new iMac has only 8GB memory Ram, it's not enough to power the speed of music softwares or photoshop.
I recommend to use the older mac, you add more memory ram for music or photoshop. I added 16GB memory to my iMac 2010, it runs really fast. :reading:

I have Studio One Pro v5 running on Big Sur 11.3.1 on an Intel i7 and i5 systems not seeing any problems prior to that I was running Catalina. As for Midi interfaces I found that Motu is still behind on getting there drivers updated to Big Sur.
