I'm looking to send 32 channels from Studio One 5 to my sumbus summing mixer using two apollo x16s ... Is it possible, or is there any disadvantage to using a send to send a channel to the summing mixer vs changing the main out to a specific output?

Using the send would allow me to make cue headphone mixes, once I change the output to the specific channel I can't.

anyone?

Are sends as good as actual outputs for use with a summing mixer?

Mac or PC? On a Mac you can combine multiple interfaces into one aggregate interface for S1 to work with, so from a “will it work?” that’s a yes. Not sure for PC.

As for disadvantages it depends. For monitor mixes you should be fine as long as you can keep latency down (depends on how fast your computer, your interfaces and the interface drivers are). For mixing and then recording you’ll be adding an extra ADC and DAC step to the tracks which will add some distortion, noise and the risk of clipping. You won’t have that when you ‘mix in the box’.

Hope that helps :)
