I want to get the Akai MPD32 drum controller but it's not listed as a device in Studio One (v5).

Can I attach the MPD32 as an external device?

Its a controller only so it does not make any sounds. There are two ways to get your AKAI to work with Studio One. Via USB or the 5 pin Midi ports on the rear panel.

USB

The USB port will power the AKAI directly.

Are there any drivers available for this. A driver for the AKAI may have to be installed first. Unless its class compliant which means Win 10 will see it the moment it is connected.

In External Devices you will need to create a Keyboard first. (This means the AKAI can send midi into Studio One) Set RECEIVE FROM to the AKAI but SEND TO to none.

Then you can create an Instrument track and set the AKAI as the input source. Record your playing and playback to the virtual instrument you may have setup in Studio One. eg Impact.

Midi Ports

You don't have to use the USB connection at all. You can use the Midi IN on the back of your 1824c interface. You still have to setup the External Devices though (Keyboard) except you will be setting RECEIVE FROM to the midi device 1824c in the dropdown menu.

Connect a midi lead from the MIDI OUT on the AKAI to the MIDI IN on the 1824c audio interface rear panel.

You will need the power adapter for the AKAI to use the Midi ports.

I have the AKAI MPD32 controller interface but I can't get this video instruction to work for me because the MPD32 don't show up in the track to the left. Can't select it 'cause It ain't there (the Midi controller) - Did anyone get this to work at all?! - I've tried all kinds of approaches now, but no luck!

Welcome to the Forum!

Yea midi devices are automatically registered in the OS but they have to have a device created for them before they can be seen on a track in S1.

Options External Devices is where those settings are.

I'm not sure if you created it as a controller device that it shows up on a track...
A keyboard will but controllers work differently I do believe.

If you notice my impact keyboard has two devices, one for automation and one for midi keys.
