What’s the word on this?

I thought we would be hearing something from Presonus about Studio One 5 by now. One of the main features I look forward to is Articulation Management. What about you guys?

Since you asked....

Not a 'power user' and can honestly say that I haven't used any of the major additions or noticed much, if any, improvement that v4 brought to the table over v3 - I updated just to keep my version current not from any sense of 'must have' excitement.

For me v5 would be great, generalising unashamedly, if it concentrated improvements on the basics - stability, cpu efficiency/speed (for those without super computers), gui enhancements/user tweeks, better interactive manual with pictures (pictures in a manual - maybe that's too radical!) and tutorial links, oh - and that all important 'make this song sound great and become an instant hit' button.

Yeah - I didn't really offer much, just off the cuff insomnia generated musings of a self-confessed luddite....

Windows 10 Pro/i7 6800k @3.4Ghz/16Gb ram. Studio One Pro, Melodyne Editor 4, Vocalign Project, Superior Drummer 3, Izotope N2-O8 and various other plugins. Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Faderport, Focal Alpha 50's, Korg Pa3x, Korg Pad Kontrol, numerous guitars, basses & other antiquated outboard gear.
Maybe one day I'll actually finish a project!

I've no idea if we are close to V5 or not but I'm hoping for everything I ever requested, everything anyone else requested (minus the daft stuff) plus lots of stuff I didn't know I wanted. Oh, and a crazy low upgrade price.

Studio One Pro 4.5, Intel i5-8400 @ 2.8GHz, 32GB RAM, Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 (3rd Gen), Novation Launchkey Mini Mk3, Akai MPK Mini MKII, Novation Remote 25 (ancient, but not as ancient as I am)
Guitars, Mics, Synths, Upright Piano (tuned circa 2005), £50 drum kit, Wife (with Cello and Cello skills)

Now I'm pretty sure nobody will disagree with that LOL  :+1

I don’t think Presonus has gone above a .6 update for Studio One, though I could be wrong. Not only that, but the current version (v4) has had a faster development cycle compared to the previous version (though it might have been slowed down by the pandemic). About a year ago I predicted that we would see version 5 right about now. But that prediction looks like it won’t happen, at least not this month :-(.

OK, Wikipedia corroborates what I said earlier about Studio One versions. There’s a table that outlines all the versions towards the middle of this page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Studio_One_(software)

The last 2 versions have May release dates, but the first 2 where released close to the year’s end. I guess that’s the other possibility. But I presume we’re getting version 5 some time this year (unless again, things have been slowed down by the pandemic).

Fingers crossed!

As I posted in a thread similar to this, Steinberg has mentioned on their forums that the pandemic has slowed development of Nuendo 11 significantly - with all of their developers working remotely. I would assume this to be true of PreSonus. I'm impressed that Apple launched a major update to Logic last week, but also assume that it had been in the works for awhile, so at this point, we can only speculate about Studio One.

Thanks for the input!

Hopefully we hear directly from Presonus as to what is the state of things in regards to how the pandemic has affected their development cycle. At least it would be nice of them.

Although it's possible to develop at home without losing too much velocity, what's tough to do is full testing.

On the major releases, there is often something fundamental that gets changed (in the recent past, audio engine, mix engine, undo/redo for the mixer, ARA2, etc.). These big changes impact many parts of the program, and making sure that you didn't break anything is a huge job.

Testing requires access to all the target systems and combinations of equipment and plugins that they support, and for that, you need to be in the office. So, I think it may be a while.

I'm hoping for more basic options & removing the need for known work arounds:

saving multi-out routing with presets
linking tracks to instrument list, with options
rename & reorder scenes
remove limitations for folders
stereo panning without plugin
track/console colors
select default MIDI time code
slave-able to external sequencer

And yeah, stability.

Studio One 4.6.2 Pro, Mac OS 10.14.6 (3.6GHz 8-Core i9, 64GB RAM, iMac / 2.8GHz 4-Core i7, 16GB, RAM MBP), Clarett 8Pre Thunderbolt, MOTU MIDI ExpressXT

Presonus, I’m still human! Please find a better security method, please.

And where's my avatar?!?

I like your list!

BTW, what folder limitations are you referring to? Also, linking tracks to instrument list. Can you explain?

Thanks!

The only one on that list that I've actively wished for is the sync to external MIDI and that's only because my Novation Launchkey Mini cannot sync to external clock and even goes as far as insisting on always transmitting a Midi clock, which I think is just rude!

But I'm happy for the other things too.

I'd also quite like an Ableton-like session view. I'm a bit jealous that Logic has just got one and it's the only reason I occasionally step into Ableton-land.

+1 I'm a new user to S1 and I'm hooked, but this is one feature I really miss. Would like some sort of audio retrospective record too🤞🤞

I'm really excited to see what cool new stuff Presonus come up with in the next update.

versions 1 to 2: 2 years
Versions 2 to 3: 3.5 years
Versions 3 to 4: 3 years

Version 4 came out May 2018, so we're only at the 2 year mark. I'd expect version 5 maybe next year.

Damn, I think you’re right.

Looking at the version release table again, I see they go up to x.6.5. We still have a few more versions to go after all :-(.

But definitely by May next year though, unless (again) the pandemic has slowed things down. Hopefully not.
