Is there a way to organise plugins by type? E.g., if I want to grab a reverb, can I look in the browser at a list of all the reverb plugins I have available?

In the browser create a New Root Tab under Files. Name it Effects. Create folders under this root tab called Delay , Reverb. Dynamics etc.

Drag an instrument into the main recording page as you normally would. Then one by one, drag all or your favourite effects onto that instrument as inserts. Then drag either the inserted effect into its proper folder in the Browser or open the effect in the insert column and drag its tab into the folder. Rename the effect to get rid of the instrument name which will by default be dragged with the effect name. When dragging the effect to the browser, you can either do so in its Init patch or change it to your favourite preset so its all loaded and ready to go. I usually just leave it at the Init patch.

If you search the old forum there's a description of how to do this with screen shots.

You can custom tailor your browser in any way you wish by this method. You can do the same with your instruments. Strings, Synths, Brass etc. Or organize by company, favourites, project types, solo vs ensemble...anything. For example, I created tabs for all the different companies I have effects from, then created folders in each company for the different types of effects, Then I created an overall Favourites folder for the ones I use most often from all the different companies.

The advantage to this system as opposed to just using the default Browser is you can customize it to suit your work habits.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain that - I hate to hark back to my "old days" but I think all this was done as an automatic option in Sonar - really slick. I.e., you could group your plugins by vendor or plugin type - bang, all done automatically as far as I remember!

You are correct and I think S1 could do the same if they chose. The only problem is that quite a few plugin makers do not tag their plugins with the correct type so they end up in "misc".
