Hi, is it correct that you cannot drag the chord from the chord track to an instrument track?
and is it correct that you cannot use the chord track to drive a vst instrument?

It's my desire to stop using Cubase and start using S1, I was waiting for the introduction of the chord track but I'm a little disappointed that these very useful features were not implemented.

thank you for any answers that may clear this up... :)

best, Kevin

Hi Kevin,

The chord track in Studio One is a reharmonization tool at present. It’s for altering existing notes and audio to fit a new chord progression. One of the fun/useful ways I use it is I play a part with a rhythm that I love and placeholder chords, then start reharmonizing it with the chord track. Or I find an audio loop with a fun rhythm and use the chord track to make it fit my desired progression.

It’s not a note generation tool like in Cubase (yet, they could always add this but I have a feeling they’ll be focusing on perfecting the current functionality for a bit first)

Cheers

Sure, makes sense, there's a lot of really useful composition and editing features in Cubase for writing.

The Presonus approach to the Chord Track focuses more on "re-writing" so to speak. Especially in tandem with Melodyne Editor/Studio. This seems to be the generally intended workflow with it, though the steps can be jumbled up depending on how fluid the song is at the moment:

- extract the chords from your song to the chord track
- find an audio loop you like with a similar rhythm
- listen to how the audio sounds playing back reharmonized to your chords. if you like it,
- use melodyne to detect the polyphonic notes
- transfer the notes to a VI
- have the VI follow the chord track

I haven't used Cubase's chord track extensively, does it reharmonize audio tracks as well or just Instrument tracks?

EZKeys does not detect chords on audio. The Chord Track does.

Please note that I may express opinions that are different from yours but I do not intend to cause offence.

A good question my friend..I don't know,..I've never used the chord track in conjunction with a wav file, as you say, the S1 chord track seems to be for re writing a song..I've never had an occasion were I would need to retrieve chords from a wav file..of course..this is just my personal work flow obviously it's useful to other peeps :)
from the songwriting point of view the Cubase chord track is just exceptional. but the rest of cubase is like trampling in mud compared to S1, however, until the S1 chord track matches the Cubase chord track I'm gonna be staying with Cubase..I wonder if Presonus realise how many peeps would jump ship to S1 if the chord track was as good as the Cubase chord track..

best, Kevin :)

I meant more like a composition tool, getting chords you write onto the track.

OP was asking about:
drag the chord from the chord track to an instrument track
use the chord track to drive a vst instrument

Both of which it does.

by re harmonise do you mean move them to scale? if so then, yes it does but sometimes not very effectively..however, i never use it like this ..i only use it with midi,
after a comment from another poster on this thread i have bought scaler which does what the cubase chord track does..so it's goodbye cubase at last..
