I'll make a video ASAP.

[EDIT] Scrolling the display is smooth, moving the Playhead cursor is what we are discussing here, and why what I'm seeing will NOT solve the issue you are requesting. The Shift+Scrollwheel scrolls the display smoothly.

It does NOT move the playhead smoothly, which I believe is what we are really discussing? "Moving the Playhead smoothly..." via a controller/mouse.

[END EDIT]

***********
Shift+Scrollwheel moves the display left/right smoothly on my mouse. I haven't tried any other options, and it also works as expected from the thumb scroll wheel on my Logitech mouse.

No KB shortcuts I know scroll smoothly, but the scroll wheel and thumb wheel scroll the display as expected.

*****
BTW - The Fast Forward/Rewind when we click/stay (mouse down) over those controls. It moves the Playhead smoothly across my screen. Is that the behavior we are requesting via the controllers?

I may be totally missing it here...

Is that the behavior we are looking for?

Shuttle wheels have no detents to move in increments, scroll wheels do. Though I'm sure there's some exceptions. So from way back when, those who'd purchase a Mackie control surface or perhaps Behringer X-Touch who have "shuttle" listed on those nice dials with the finger detent on top would expect that nice infinitely variable control when shuttle is used.

I'm one who agrees with wanting to use it in that way. Studio One doesn't allow for it. Don't shoot me, I'm only the bearer of bad news. ;)

PreAl wroteHas this been sorted yet? If not it's kinda nuts this issue of only scrolling one bar at a time has been going on so long.

@ PreAl. First. There's no discussion about scrolling with the timeline one bar at a time. This is an older thread from 2019. I'm not sure why this post was chosen to carry on when the topic states smooth scrolling on the timeline. Yes, there are various incremental ways to scroll. It's largely device dependent.

Display could be another topic. Yes, the timeline movement will force the display, or other key commands. But the subject here is smooth movement on the timeline. At least, from its inception it was.

Also, Autoscroll should have never been brought up in this thread. It's appreciated, but has noting to do with the subject.
Let's stay on topic here guys (myself included).

Subject : How do I setup smooth scrolling on the timeline for a track

I will admit, "along the timeline" is a bit ambiguous.
Though the OP also states with the shuttle wheel on his Behringer X-Touch. I don't have that unit, though others with an X-Touch also have brought this up as well. The Faderport is different, it has detents, and does not scroll or shuttle, smoothly.

My comment above is similar to as below...

roblof wroteStudio One can not do smooth scrolling. Not even with their own controllers. You are unfortunately restricted only scrolling to bars...

I am talking about lack of smooth scrolling with timeline as per original post.

Intel i9 9900K (Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE motherboard), 32GB RAM, EVGA Geforce 1070 (Nvidia drivers).
Dell Inspiron 7591 (2 in 1) 16Gb.
Studio One Pro 6.x, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, also running it on Mac OS Catalina via dual boot (experimental).
Presonus Quantum 2626, Presonus Studio 26c, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Faderport Classic (1.45), Atom SQ, Atom Pad, Maschine Studio, Octapad SPD-30, Roland A300, a number of hardware synths.

roblof (not the OP) states Studio One even with its own hardware can only scroll one bar at a time. Again, it's hardware dependent which was your point with Faderports of sorts.

I've come across these few and varied incremental steps depending in the device used. So yes, this still holds true with different hardware.

Were you (PreAl) using something that also reflected this. I didn't see towards your own issue, and perhaps I missed what hardware you were using. Are you trying this with a jog shuttle wheel, or incremental pot? Endless encoder? In a nutshell, they all will exhibit incremental steps, be it, beat, or bar. That is except the touch mouse I used which was wonderfully variable. I no longer have that mouse, and it was on Windows 7. I can no longer find that model advertised.

Maschine studio (mackie).
Atom.
Atom Sq
Faderport classic.
Mouse wheel.

They all behave exactly the same.
Bar scrolling or some reasonable gap is fine, I can get from A to B quickly. But then if I want to be more accurate...no go.

Let me know if I can smooth scroll a timeline on any of this. Not seeing it :)

Will do. I was just exploring Atom SQ this way. With the detent knob and its encoders. I couldn't shift+turn knob or use any modifier and have it change. Though, my time was limited. I'll try some things possibly this weekend and see if something works.

The difference is jogging with PT and a few other DAW's, it just works, and that's what leaves people using a shuttle wheel feeling slightly miffed. ;)

I disagree as Autoscroll is related to smooth scrolling . But that's fine - a matter of opinion.

Please note that I may express opinions that are different from yours but I do not intend to cause offence.
