I got most of my X-touch (The full size one not the compact or mini) working. The one thing that I see working in other DAWS (Through YouTube) is when you touch a fader, that channel should automatically be selected. Is this not supported in Studio One?

I did update the X-Touch firmware to version 1.15. I am using Studio One Version 4 Professional.

Also, Are there any Templates out there for the X-touch with Studio One?

If not, can an experienced Studio One & X-touch user give me a list of what the buttons do?

I have an X-touch as well (same full one as you.) S1 supports (almost fully) Mackie Control which is what the labels on the device are configured for. No template is necessary. Not all of the functions are supported in S1, though. I don't believe S1 supports touch select, or if it does, I have not been able to figure out how to configure it.

I do see that a lot is working fine, but some things like the Mark Button are strange. The Mark button lights up blue when pressed and turns off when pressed again. I figured it should place a marker at the current point, but it does not.

I got the X-Touch because it also works with my XR-18 (Only have to press the SMPTE button to switch between the two!)

I guess I really need to sit down with the reference manual. I just found this in there:
With the Marker button enabled, FF and REW jump between markers, and the REC button inserts a marker at the cursor position.

Note: I could only find the reference for Version 3.0. I am assuming that version 4.0 works the same for this.

I just learned something too. I haven't spent too much time with the manual myself - might need to do that.

Just out of interest even Faderport 8 which has a much deeper level of integration with Studio One won't do this. Touching a fader is not enough to select a track. Personally I am not sure I would want this anyway. On FP8 you have to bring the track of interest into view and then press the Select button for that track in order to select it.

This feature worked with Sonar and it was cool. I guess if you weren't careful, you could end up selecting and altering tracks you didn't want to. You are right, though that the select button is not far from the fader.

I know Logic supports touch Select as well.

It would be interesting to see if the Faderport 8 supports more than the X-Touch.
I do have the single FaderPort and have that hooked up in addition to the X-Touch. I have yet to be able to figure out Return to Zero on X-Touch, but my FaderPort does have that.

Dumb question - what is "Return to Zero?"

Return to Zero. Returns the Now Cursor to Time 0.
Same as the first single < in the Transport region of Studio One.

Hit the stop button one more time. Once stops it where it is. Twice returns to previous position and a third time returns to zero.

OK, Thanks! Yes...That works. Also there are other things that are not documented. I am tempted to create a document that outlines all of the Studio One functionality.

IMO, it would be extremely annoying to have the track selection change every time I touch a fader

Yep. It works on Logic. I went back and forth on if it was helpful or not - sometimes it was, other times it was a pain. I found extremely useful while making quick static/rough mixes.

I've just switched from mac to windows, so no more Logic for me. Overall, I don't think I'll miss it.

I went out to You Tube and found nothing on X-Touch and Studio One. I have a document started. I have to confirm a few things. Since I am a hobbyist and do not use my studio full time (or even close to as much as I want!) This may take some time.

There are several items I have not figured out like the Nudge button, Replace button, Trim Button, Group Button.
Under Modify, the Control, Alt and Options buttons. I did get Shift to work on Save to give me Save As and Sift on Undo is Redo.

F2 seems to do nothing, F8 seems to do nothing but should toggle floating windows?

Next to the Global View Button MIDI Tracks Button (I don't do much MIDI), Inputs, Audio Inst, User.

Pat, when you get the document "done," I will take a look and add what I know that you missed. I suspect it won't be much as you've played around with it a bit more than I have (by that I mean punching buttons to see what happens.)

The Mackie Control guide section of the S1 manual may also provide some insight - I haven't looked at it yet, but it should should show what parts of Mackie Control are implemented.

Thanks Pat. This will be very useful if/when I go X-Touch, which I've been considering for a long while now.

BobF, the price point is amazing and for $299 adding an additional 8 channels...nice!
It also controls my XR-18 Mixer/Interface which is a big plus for me!

If anyone is considering a control surface for Studio One, Faderport 8/16 is way ahead of any other device. Trust me on this. The other formats that Studio One has to operate in e.g. MCU. HUI etc are only a compromise. I could list 50 or more things Faderport 8/16 can do under Studio One native control that other control surfaces would only dream of. It is way ahead.

It is more expensive though which I get. Remember too that Faderport can also be put into all the other modes and control other software/hardware.

But for overall control of Studio One Faderport is by far the best. Once you get into it deeply it is quite staggering. You can edit plugins, you can nudge events, everything. Also the electronic scribble strips are incredible. Faderport is also way deeper than any Series III mixer in DAW mode.

It is not until you start using FP8/16 with Studio One that you realise that Faderport 8/16 is really the ultimate control surface for Studio One. Even the new one is pretty cool as well. If you have Faderport 1 (Classic) and like it, you will love the new model. It has many of the larger Faderport functions. It is way more powerful than the original Faderport.

It is not until you actually connect Faderport 8/16 to Studio One you realise it is a match made in heaven. Studio One has been designed to work with Faderport 8/16!
