Have the exact problem, Windows 7 latest updates and Nvidia, Gtx 960. Fresh reinstall of my computer and it refuses to work, stuck at plugin search.
I've discovered that deleting Studio One.settings in %appdata% works but only once. When you restart it's back at the same problem. You can delete it again to make it start if you want to, but one restart of Studio One is enough to go back to the problem. So there's a block there somehow. I had one breakthrough where I apprently had not activated Studio One 4 yet. I did so and it worked. But then I installed the new Fat Channel plugins, activated them, restart, same problem. Tried deleting .settings and disabled them, but same problem after restart. No idea what it could be, haven't tried rolling back Nvidia drivers yet. S1-3 worked nicely. |
Here's the link to the 388.71 driver (Dec 17, 2017) that appears to work for everybody who tested it so far. IF it works/doesn't for you, please let us know.
(At least it provides a workaround for those who need something until PreSonus and/or Nvidia figure out who has the issue.) http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverRe ... 8426/en-us

As a side comment, here are optimization tips for nVidia graphics cards and DAWs (quite different from games optimization, setting are designed to reduce spikes and improve latency).
Turn off NVidia Windows services. Control Panel 3D settings: Shader cash = off Maximum Pre rendered frames = 1 Vertical sync = off Power management mode = Prefer Max. Threaded optimization = off Apply and reboot.

System: Windows 7 SP 1, NVidea video card with latest drivers - mine was a GTX 970.
Symptoms: S1 V4 hangs after displaying 'Scanning plugins', On rebooting the program may or may not run correctly, It will never run again in the same session. Screen 'tearing' may occur when moving a VST window outside of the main program window. Remedy: Regress video drivers to version 388.71 Support ticket raised. Note: Don't attempt to re-install the old video drivers in the same session as one where you've tried to run S1. The driver installation will hang....... Thanks to all previous posters, |

I have the GT 660 and a newer driver than 390.xx in Windows 7 (64 Bit) and S1V4 worked....BUT... due to my problem with the disappearing scrollbar (https://forums.presonus.com/viewtopic.php?f=151&t=30452) I updated Windows 7 because on my laptop (also Win7) the scrollbar doesn´t disappear. After updating Windows 7 I also got stuck at plugin scan and I had to go back to a NVidia driver version 388.xx.Thanks for finding out this workaround!

It only started happening after you ran Windows update on Windows 7? If so this makes this a very exotic issue indeed.

398.11 (6/5/18) - BROKEN
Still waiting for PreSonus to get it in gear and issue a fix for software which doesn't work on a fully updated, supported platform at a supported resolution that their previous version supports. Maybe Steinberg isn't so bad after all. They managed to break the virtual MIDI keyboard, but at least Cubase Pro -starts-. *sigh* |
Windows 10 (maybe earlier version) has a different issue with the VST scanner, maybe it's related to this (or maybe it isn't). Maybe this will do nothing, maybe it will do something. Regardless it doesn't take long to do.
How to test: 1) Remove all your VST paths in Studio one, reset Blacklist, restart Studio One. 2) Put all your VST paths back into Studio one, reset Blacklist, restart Studio One. Otherwise the workarounds (as everybody knows) is roll back the driver, upgrade to Windows 10 or continue to use V3 (like I am, I would never use an initial release of any DAW for production no matter how well it is tested).

markluljak wrote398.11 (6/5/18) - BROKEN So far you're the only person who I've seen continue to have issues with 398.11, Win 7 and the start-up scanner. In the PreSonus FB group, others had the same issue as you. So far all have resolved it by reverting to 398.11. (Lots of configs out there, there could be another factor we don't see yet.) It may not be a PreSonus issue. It could easily be related to the driver. The Nvidia driver for Win10 works fine with the scanner. It may be a PreSonus issue, -OR- they may find a way to code around the issue. It may or may not happen soon, it depends on how many other bugs are in play, are there viable workarounds for most, and how many people are affected by the issue. An issue with a few people out of hundreds of thousands is lower priority than an issue that impacts hundreds or thousands on a daily basis. I'm sure they would like zero bugs, and if it's an easy fix, it will be part of the next update... Usually 4-8 weeks from the initial release, based on their history, but over my pay grade to predict when it will arrive. Nvidia might have to fix it. Be sure you're filing a bug report with them too. Or if it's better for you, switch to Cubase. Maybe they do a better job overall, up to you.

^^ And it may be a Windows 7 issue. Turns out that it works on some PC's that haven't updated to the latest build via Win update...that could be doing something to the Nvidia driver which in turn is doing something to studio one. It's all about Dependencies when it comes to software.
Or try what I wrote a few posts ago. Nothing is as black and white as it seems...

@markluljak
You have been given some good tips related to your issue on this thread. It is not helpful to simply complain about it if you can't take the time to try some of these suggestions. For many "complaints", it is far better to list the steps clearly that leads to the reproducible issue and to try some of the steps suggested to solve it. If those steps don't work, please create a support ticket. |
I'm probably missing something here because I'm not particularly puter savvy but I have the latest S1/3 and it works great..I try to open the trial of S1/4 and it will not open, does that not mean that somethings wrong with S1/4?
not trying to start a flame war or anything but If they've moved on and stopped supporting certain puters or certain graphics drivers wouldn't they say so? reverting to older drivers is daft you pay your money..it should work If I'd bought S1/4 I wouldn't be able to even open it...and suggestions that I should reconfigure my puter are IMHO not right, Presonus need to reconfigure their sofware or start giving peeps their money back..

kev4 wroteI'm probably missing something here because I'm not particularly puter savvy but I have the latest S1/3 and it works great..I try to open the trial of S1/4 and it will not open, does that not mean that somethings wrong with S1/4? I think this has been covered already (over and over again ), this really is an edge case. Windows 7, Nvidia latest drivers and windows update combination. There are various sensible workarounds. The first patch isn't even out, and I'm not sure why you are using the first iteration of software (but each to their own). I'm not sure why you are wanting money back, rolling back to an earlier Nvidia driver is an easy workaround and really you shouldn't expect an easy ride on Windows 7 nowadays. It will be fixed no doubt by somebody (Nvidia or Presonus) but I guess you won't have the patience. Regardless (who cares what I think) if you need a refund, even though you or I don't even know if it's an issue with the Nvidia driver or not, then why don't you log a support ticket with Presonus and ask for one rather than post here?
