I love that V4 is much more clearer now. In special the mixer. Big pro point for me.
I did hope for a couple of changes that makes life easier for people with hardware. Well, that did not happen. My personal cons: - No option for switching to prefader listening - Pipeline still no mono send, stereo receive - The matrix for audio in/out (soundinterface) still inflexible as before - Still no sends on the FX bus - No phase switch on channels - No tapestyle pitch up/down on audio channels - Missing a option to invert selected notes for variation in midi events - Still no option with rightclick on audio to simple transform to 1x mono, or similar options But i love the smooth look ; ) |

fnordbak wrotejpettit wrotedrewsocial wroteThe demo is now available in your account: https://my.presonus.com/ No v4 demo available in my account either. I own Studio One v3 Pro. Is it possible to just post a download link to the demo here in the forum? |
Funkybot wroteSo on the topic of MPE, I just used the demo for a few seconds and I was hoping that we'd at least get an Omni channel for MIDI, which still isn't there. This would've been a great stopgap solution to make MPE at least a little more bearable in Studio One until a full-blown solution could've been implemented. As I'm sure you know Craig, Sonar had midi Omni (might've been called All, can't remember) long, long, long before MPE was ever a twinkle in anyone's eye. I think Studio One is the only host I've used that can't record multiple MIDI channels on one track. Yes...for true MPE, the only truly essential requirement is being able to record multiple MIDI channels on one track. However, those DAWs that can record all channels often have a choice of one channel or all channels. For future MPE implementations, it would be great to be able to restrict the range of channels being recorded. That way, you could take advantage more easily of something like the LinnStrument's Split function. For example one track could record channels 2-8, and another 9-15. I suspect future instruments would take advantage of this kind of functionality in other ways. MPE is still young, I look forward to seeing how it and MIDI-CI develop in the future.

lfo2k wrote- No tapestyle pitch up/down on audio channels What I do is use both the Speedup and Tune parameters to do tape-style shifting. It's actually kind of an advantage to alter the two parameters independently, but you could submit in FR to link them so that (for example) turning up speed 2% raises pitch 2%.

Downloaded demo. First impression - there's something wrong with visual side of things. Mixer looks blurry, text is much less clear than in v3.

Thanks for your quick reply. This isn't however the problem I have. It's that V3 now doesn't work anymore and also disappeared from my 'my products' page. I thought I'd still be able to use V3 alongside V4, similarly as V2 was still usable together with V3 when that came out. Any clue?

SkylineUK wroteI'm going to pass on V4. The target market seems to be (even more) firmly the users of loops and beats, i.e. not those recording performances of musicians. I'm not knocking the strategy, I'm sure it all makes market sense, but there's nothing I can use in this ugrade so I'll stick with 3. Likewise |

I realy see the nice new shiny improvements of all kinds, and my respect for that, but since i own V2 there did not happen a single improvement for users of real nice external gear, and with that i mean real synthesizers, and FX. It looks like this upgrade is primarily for beats & sampler oriented producers and songwriters.
I really like a few of the features: Chord Track, ARA-2 coming, Ripple Editing/Notepad/AAF -- about time. And the prior features of comping, scratch pads, arranger track etc. make S1 enticing. However, I'm not sure that this owner of S1 3.5 is going to become a rabid user for normal usage. As a long-time Samplitude Pro X2/3 user, it's stellar for recording, editing, mixing, mastering, and works well with instruments and controllers. It has most of the MIDI features people here are complaining about S1v4 not yet having. I'll watch and wait for bug reports and a sub $100 upgrade price (pro to pro). I'll take a new look in a bit when I get back into songwriting, and see if I'm persuaded. Upcoming Enhanced coordination with Notion could make a difference. And improved hardware controller features. CHA |
read through a lot of the messages. People seem to be having the same issue.
I understand v4 not working to perfect standards right now, but what i do have issue with is that my v3 is no longer in my products, and also that i cannot activate it so can't carry on working. V4 works in the loose sense but crashes every minute or so the second i load up a project from v3. I've got a EP to finish. If i knew buying v4 would stop me using v3 all together, i wouldn't have bought the update. As such, i may miss my release schedule. I hope they fix this soon. If they could only just reactivate my v3, there will be no issue. Strange how my v1 and v2 licenses aren't affected. |
