But say I'm doing a punch in at bar 35. I set it at bar 33, hit record and it starts back at the beginning. I can scroll but I'm obviously missing something...it's not "go to start when stop is pushed" either, I don't think. Sorry for my noobness...

I have been trying to replicate this but have not been successful.

If you were wanting to punch in at say bar 35 the way I would do it is set the loop above from say bar 35 to after the punch point e.g. bar 43 (8 bars or set for the required number of bars) Loop does not even have to be engaged.

Then I would set the metronome to pre roll for say 2 bars. Press 1 on the numeric key pad and the cursor will align itself to bar 35. Then hit record and it should jump back two bars, pre roll for two bars and then right on bar 35 it will jump into record.

Works for me every time this way.

The only thing that takes the cursor right back to the start for me is the '.' key as it should.

Yeah, I set the loops at 35 to whatever then put the timeline at 34 with punch in lit.

push record (^) and it will start playing then when it hits bar 35 it will start recording.

When I press stop (num pad 0) it will stop. Press it again and it will return to bar 34.

Press it one more time and it will return to the start of the song.

Ok, I was pressing the record button on my Faderport 8 and it would go back to start. I used keyboard buttons after and it behaved ok but haven’t been able to follow up with tests. Will reconfirm function later today. Thanks!!!

That is interesting because I have the FaderPort 1 and the record button works the same way for me as it does using the * button on the QWERTY keyboard. Maybe in your case it was programmed to do something different. Check out your Faderport 8 settings perhaps.

I experience a similar glitch. Mine jumps back exactly one measure causing me to record over the end of the previous measure. It seems pretty random though. Within the same project it will sometimes start at the correct spot and sometimes it will jump back a bar. Very frustrating.

Currently I’m experiencing this using my faderport 8 but in truth I’ve experienced this randomly even way before the faderport 8 was even released.

I got it working ok, Faderport behaves too. Just had to find the right click box. Still learning, thanks for your replies.

Oops, ya that would probably help out, I believe it was unchecking the return to start on stop, but I was sure I'd unchecked it before. I was also clicking pre-roll instead of punch in. Once I figured out my goof it was good...
