Do you mean:
When I arm an instrument track for recording, the volume of it drops.

Or,
When I compare the playback of the instrument track to when I monitor to record on it, the volume changes.

Please be more specific as the the nature of your issue.
Thanks.

Maybe you are monitoring at a much higher volume level than your record level, ?

Presonus 16.4.2 - Mac mini 2.3G i7, 16G Ram, Faderport - S1 -3 Pro
Novation Impulse 49 - Yamaha HS7 - Kemper Profiler -
SE 3300 - SE2200 - SE Reflexion - EBMM AAxis super sport - Taylor 414CE - PRS 513.

When you have Dropout protection set to anything else but Minimum, try to set it back to Minimum.
If that solves it, you probably have a plugin in the low latency monitoring path of the instrument, that is introducing a latency > 3 ms.

The audio signal of Instruments with Low latency monitoring for instruments enabled, will bypass plugins introducing a latency > 3 ms when monitored.

Instruments within a Low latency monitoring for instruments path, have a green instead of blue activate button and a Z on their channel(s). Inserts on the channels that are included in the low latency path also have a green activation button. Inserts that are (partially*) bypassed ( > 3ms) are lacking a clear visual indicator of their current state and are just blue.

* When on a bus receiving low latency and non low latency paths.
