Scaling in Windows 10 is set to 175% (4K screen). Unfortunately, this is a crash fest when trying to resize plugins, or switch between plugins.
Does anyone have the same problem?

Happens with all plugins that are resizable, including Superior Drummer 3, Sylenth 1, Valhalla VintageVerb & VintageMod, and all U-He plugins at *some* pre-defined sizes (eg. Diva - 120% and 130%, and Zebra - 120%, 190% and 200%). Note that it ONLY happens when Windows scaling is set to 175%.

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem: it crashes when resizing plugins, but only at 175% (on Windows 10) ! I have a Nvidia 1050ti graphic card + Intel integrated GPU on my laptop with QHD Display: it crashes with both graphic cards, and with ALL resizeable plugins: Izotope Iris, Valhalla Vintage Verb, TB Barricade 4, Tritik TKdelay.... I doesn't crash at 150 or 200%. Did you find a solution ? That's really ennoying because on my laptop I REALLY need the 175% ! (150 is too small and 200 too big....) |
romainlopez wroteHi, The only "solution" is to switch to 150% scaling, resize the plugin, the go back to 175%. That's really ennoying because on my laptop I REALLY need the 175% ! (150 is too small and 200 too big....) Same here. I created a little test VST, and Studio One appears to crash if the plugin width (or height) +1 is divisible by 7. So, a width of 341 or 343 pixels is OK, but 342 causes a crash.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick answer. So, a width of 341 or 343 pixels is OK, but 342 causes a crash. Strange I tested and the same plugins resize correctly at 175% in Ableton Live, Reaper, Sound Forge and Vegas.... Let's hope the guys at Presonus will sort this out... we're certainly not the only ones using 175% scale ! |
I have a little question. You said all the time Studio One crashes at 175%.
How can you know this? Try it with all internal resizable S1 plugins like Spectrum Meter, Scope, Phase Meter etc. So is it Studio One that crashes - or the mentioned single plugins in VST2? Also in VST3 versions? Or only VST3 versions? Ari

Hi Ari,
Thank you : I did the test with the Studio One internal plugins you mention, and indeed they resize without problem. So only external resizeable plugins crash... but the result is the same because Studio One becomes unresponsive, and you have to force quite the program. And this happens with both VST2 and VST3 versions of the plugins. The test made by fnordback + mine (with the same plugins in other VST hosts) suggest that there is something specific to Studio One causing this... |
AriAhrendt wroteI have a little question. You said all the time Studio One crashes at 175%. It's Studio One. I can reproduce this with all resizable plugins. No issues in other hosts. The crash happens after the new plugin window size is sent to the host.

Hi fnordbak ,
I guess you missunderstood my point. Try the same with S1 internal plugins. If it happens there, then it is S1. If it is only with 3rd Party VST plugins, then it doesn't have to be a Studio One crash. That means only because Studio One crashes, means not, that it is Studio One that crashes. It is just a result by other activities before. You know? Ari

AriAhrendt wroteHi fnordbak , No, this is definitely a Studio One bug. And the internal plugins are not standard VSTs as far as I know.

Hmm do we have a language barriere here?
Was it missunderstandable what I wrote? I am not sure. Again How can you know that it is a S1 bug? Please do the test again WITHOUT USING any 3rd party products from different companies. Without using VST plugins!!!! Just the pure S1 internal tools. Now try again plugin stretching with pure PreSonus plugins. And tell the result. So is it S1 that crashes from alone? Or is it always in releationship with 3rd party VST products? Code from other developers, not from studio one team. Ari

Hi Ari,
I don’t know if we have a language barrier (I’m french by the way), but for sure I don’t understand your tone, or what you want to suggest : do you mean that there is no problem at all from Presonus side ? is this what you mean ? I created a little test VST, and Studio One appears to crash if the plugin width (or height) +1 is divisible by 7. So, a width of 341 or 343 pixels is OK, but 342 causes a crash. Don’t you think this requires more investigation (at least a test from Presonus) ? It may be the external plugins that cause the crash, but Studio One Professional is supposed to host external plugins, that’s a feature of the program. And we’re not talking about only 1 particular brand/plugin causing a crash, we’re talking about EVERY external resizeable plugins ; saying it’s not Presonus’ fault won’t solve our problem |
He is trying to get help from you guys to isolate the problem. It is simple to debug 101 and required to write up a ticket.
If the problem cannot be replicated with native plugins, then it is a problem with either the 3rd parties or how 3rd party GUI info is being interpreted by the host. I have a 4k and the Valhalla Vintage Verb so I can try to confirm that much. UPDATE: Confirmed behavior with Resizing at 175% Unfortunately, it creates a 0 length crash log. Reported to development. If anyone knows of another prevalent resizable 3rd party plugin that can easily be tested/demo etc speak up.

The V3 doesn't resize ! They introduced this feature in the V4: just grab the lower right corner (like the Valhalla's)
If you click the link I just posted before, the V4 is included in the zip file. Also, Tritik plugins are all resizeable. Demos here: https://www.tritik.com/library/#echorus |
Thanks it is already confirmed so we are done. Just have to wait for fix.
