This is written, in precaution mode, while hoping that Nothing negative will occur.
Once upon a time . . . . . before I realized what was occurring, the latest Win10 update, known as "Fall", was in midstream.
Back on and ready for regular use, there were some Quite annoying things that I had no choice but to have happen. The following, are a few.

*The first, was a new selection of games, installed with the update. Meaning; bloatware thrust upon us, again. How many more will I discover. Can this type thing affect Studio One?
*Next, and just after the final restart of this update, was a pop-up saying that Windows has uninstalled an app/program, in this case; "MAXX Audio", because it wasn't 64-bit. Now I realize that 32, doesn't do the 64 thing. What bothers me, is that Win10 removed it WITHOUT asking. Not cool. I don't know about you, but I have MANY 32-bit VSTs that run just fine with a few other music programs and for many, with the use of a bridge.
Moral: I want them on my computer. How many other things will it remove on it's own?
*Next, and the Most annoying, is the "Virtual Agent" pop-up, offering to help me with what ever. I'm guessing it's the new Microsoft version of "Clippy, the paper clip" assistant, that (pretty much) Nobody liked. I could Not be more excited to see it pop-up in Studio One, asking how things are going. So far, I have read that it Cannot be disabled or removed. I'm sure there's a system hack, but that's always a risk.

In each new "improvement" to Windows, this forum has been bar none The Best place to quest for assistance in getting through issues that mess with our DAW. I'm Not yelling that the sky is falling, as this update "just" entered into My world and I have NOT had a Studio One related issue with this latest "Fall" creators update . . . . . . yet.

So, in the spirit of knowing what to look/listen for, If there is are any issues, I have to ask;
Has anyone encountered issues with sound, smooth operations or any other "new" issue(s) within Studio One, that we need to be aware of?

Wouldn't it be nice, that Nothing negative comes from this latest "fix"?

~Thanks.

Thank you for posting your experiences. I have been holding off on this update (or was it the previous creators update) for quite a while. Not looking forward to it. I am hoping that because I have Win 10 pro, that I can avoid the bloatware and other nonsense when I do decide to update.

So THAT's what happened after I installed some new hardware and booted up only to find a "Please Wait, Installing Updates" thing the other day. I did a little research and it appears they are gradually rolling out the Fall Creators update. It will be 1709 build 16299. I'm on it now so I'll post if any gremlins pop up. It appears they are rolling out their Virtual Reality widget with this. There are some known issues with Java Script.

My motto has always been, " that if it isn't broke, don't try and fix it ", and with that my experience with operating systems has always been pain free when it has come to using DAW's. If Microsoft had their way, user's use of the Windows 10 operating system could be even more painful such as going the Adobe way of doing things..'I'm sorry, the use of your operating system has now expired, please log into your Microsoft cloud account to renew your subscription" :D.

As it is, Windows 10 is the worst OS Microsoft has ever made, having used it myself, it's on my backup laptop, which I plan to replace with a Linux distro.

It's possible to deactivate lot's of things in Windows 10 Settings app.
I suggest to go thru all settings.
Here is a single example: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/7225-turn-off-background-apps-windows-10-a.html

It's possible to deactivate start up app's and services that's not needed to run in the task manager.

All the things mentioned in this thread - and much more (including "spyware") - can be deactivated. Sometimes it's just needed to search a while to find out where to deactivate. Some things can only be found in links on a page in the settings app. So look and read carefully.

You don't have to have that much running.

As a general FYI ... you may want to avoid it for now as some who've updated have found that it (for them, maybe not everyone with it, no clue) continually invalidates the Studio One activation license, continually changes something that the license uses to identify the system, and they have to re-activate Studio One every time they restart the computer.

I tried to update to it on my laptop to test that, to see if it happened to me also, and see what fixes may or may not work, but the updated failed.

I am on Windows 10 Home 64 version 1709 OS Build 16299.64 (Fall Update) for a few days now and I did see some rescanning activity for some old hardware but no show stoppers (yet).
S1 came up just find. On the update before this one, I had to login into XLN's license manager and have it rescan for some reason.
Everything seems to be working good on my end. I know this may not be the case for all.

No Studio One activation issues here after update to Creators Fall version on both my desktop and my laptop. My system run even faster than before, but perhaps it's just for a while.

But yes any update like this can create problems that need to be fixed. I for example had to reconnect my controller when Creators version came out. Sometimes a driver somewhere need to be updated or re-installed, and things like that.

If an update fail, then sometimes it's because something is missing. Running Windows update manually to search for updates might find something that will fix the failing update.

That's good to know, thanks. You guys have rebooted since the update right? The people seeing that issue only see it when the system reboots of if they shut it down and boot up again later. There's a big thread about it here in the German language forum.

Thanks.

I have to check was version it was, but my fight with MS came to an end the other day. After fighting off the update, I must have hit the wrong button on a popup, and the update happened.

It hosed all my USB drivers. Simple reinstall of UC corrected that. My Yamaha Keys were a bit of a struggle to reinstall, but it finally did take, so I think I am back to normal.

But i have just openend my computers again, and now my laptop still have no issues, but my desktop suddenly have the S1 activation issue, and it have network card issues. It's very strange.

I don't have the time to look at it now, but i post in case someone can use this information regarding doing the update or not.

Microsoft "enhanced my computing experience" with the Fall update a few days ago but so far and many reboots later nothing catastrophic. I did have to edit my Yamaha synth also but no big wup. I will post if something negative arises.

It look like i have managed to get my network card working normally on my desktop. It suddenly did'nt start up, but now it look like it does. We'll see in the next days.

But i have got S1 activation issues - and still only on my desktop PC listed below.
I have tried to reactivate, but every time reboot, then S1 ask for activation. It forget.
Every reactivation count on my Presonus account. So to be able to continue using S1, then it's also needed to remove activations from my account. This is absolutely not good.
I have run diskclean also of system files. And i have tried all that i have could think about to do too.
Is this a S1/ Presonus issue? Why don't is'nt the activtion code remembered?
Anyone who know what's going on?

Is there a activation method known that works?

No i have not opened a ticket yet. (I have before, so i guess i can find out to create a ticket thanks. I prefere to not need to open one.)
In the German Forum it looks like Ari have responded. I'm not German speaking, but to me it look like there is'nt any solutions yet.
I wanted to see if there was a solution before i opened a support ticket. Also i think a solution should be public as it look like it's an issue not only i have.

For example my Arturia and NI activations seems to work fine on both my laptop and my desktop. So i guess it can be a S1/ Presonus issue.

Edit. I have also run a sfc /scannow as administrator from the kommandoprompt. But nothing was wrong. Edit end.

It look like the S1 license entries in the registry is the same on both my laptop and my desktop. Can one or more of the entries in my desktops registry be corrupt? I don't delete anything before i know if it's safe.

I have the license issue with both S1V2 and S1V3.

I have not tried to reinstall S1 yet. I hope i don't have to do that. But will it fix the issue i wonder?

I don't know if you know this, but there is a limit of 5 machines in which you can register Studio One on. Go to your account, 'Manage Activations' and check how many you have. Does that help ? If you have trouble activating, if could be that you have installed a spyware blocking utility which is blocking the access to the outside site, or it may be your firewall.

For the time being, is it for S1 users recommended not updating Windows to the Fall Creators update (1709)?

As I have understood, Windows can be quite "insisting" when it comes to updates, so advice could be helpful.

P.S.: Contemplating switching from Mac to Windows next month, so my questions aren't just rethorical. Thanks.
