What are your expectations / predictions in this release ? There has been some interesting developments with other daws / similar daws recently....and as it happens very recently, in the past hour of me posting this co-incidently in fact..with another daw beginning with the letter R (see my sig for the clue to what one)

Hey Scott.
I recommend you change this thread's title. It appears like this is some kind of announcement or comment on S1 4.0 instead of being a prediction or wish list. It is misleading IMO.
Maybe "Presonus Studio One 4.0 Wish List"?

Thanks.

Now that they've addressed the CPU usage, latency, and mixer undo, I still think Studio One has some catching up to do on the MIDI side of things, along with a few more relatively standard features. Things like:

Track Notes
Track Templates (for Audio and improved Multi-Instrument templates - should recall pans, fader levels, busses, sends, etc.)
Improved Tempo Drawing
Mix Snapshots
Smart Tool for MIDI
Drum Editor
Articulation Editor
Score Editor/Notion add-in (w/ no rewire)
MIDI Event List
Color Notes by Velocity in PRV
MPE support (including send/receive MIDI on multiple channels from 1 instrument track)
More GUI color customization options
Plugin scaling on 4k and UHD monitors
Improved Waveform Drawing
Ripple Editing
Stereo Pans on the Channel Faders
More metering options on faders
Option to set per-project pan law
Lock for clips

Notice that chunk of MIDI items in the middle? That's where I see the biggest opportunity for S1 to improve. I keep looking enviously at other DAWs that have more comprehensive MIDI functionality, but I think S1 will get there with the next major release.

Good title post Scott.

I am hoping for:

1. Mixer Snapshot
2. Vocal Align (internal ARA)
3. Midi Editor for in depth editing
4. Auto peak finder for each track. Tell me where my peaks are!
5. Simple notation editor.
6. Multi timeline display to show beats AND time. Need both!
7. Scalable UI.

Some of my TOP x FRs:

MIDI / composers features:
- Better / clearer multi part MIDI (musical..) editing
- MIDI articulation editor
- Recording on top of existing MIDI events -> creating new events instead of merging
- Improved note editing while playback
- Velocity displayed as colors (optional of course)
- Editing (selecting, moving) automation together with notes
- Enhance arranger for more complex music (pickups, released notes), locking events to arranger sections
- Note filter (selection by criteria)
- Improved time warping possibility (transforming the grid to be able to edit rubato played notes in the grid)

General workflow:
- Improved macro environment (multiple macro bars, focus commands, improved macro editing, sharing etc.)
- Tempo things (everything already mentioned)
- Screen sets
- Improved browser instrument/FX preset management (dragging presets, creating preset folders in browser)

Project page:
- Automation :-) (volume at least)

A lot of stuff for film composing basically:

- set timecode at bar X, very important to sync a video machine to S1
- retrospective record -> noodle around and press record afterwards to capture great missed ideas
- possibility to enable deep split via shortcut to cut controllers and notes from the project view -> important to cut and re-arrange pieces of a project, without losing notes and controller data
- show and hide MIDI CC lanes via shortcut
- track templates (sends and the whole shebang)
- track search (instruments, audio and folder tracks with content) plus show and hide abilty
- color notes based on velocity
- lock clips and tracks
- focus on PRV with shortcut for macros
- move playhead in bars, beats and quantize setting
- Note Filter (awesome idea Lukas), for example: select all beats on C3, select all 2 and 4 beats on D3 in the loop

My FRs:
http://answers.presonus.com/user/_Stevie_/questions
Shortcut to show / hide controller lanes | Ability to handle large orchestral templates with 1000+ tracks | Add a visibility agent for select events/notes under cursor | deep split as shortcuts for split | split at cursor and split loop, assign bus to instruments dropped on folder tracks

Mojito v2 with extra oscillator, plus add a supersaw waveform, and add some edm presets.

New Pro-grade Reverb

Enhance the midi editing

Find 10 current features that are not absolutely necessary and toss them out. Find several ways to streamline/simplify the interface even further so that even a novice can complete a project without ever reading the manual. Simplicity is king.

Smarter zoom out to full content behavior (similar to Studio One 2*) [vote]

Image

*First double click is open closed editor and maintain previous zoom state (like F2 but with the possibility to open multiple selected parts across different tracks at once).
Second double click when editor is open will zoom out to full content (like what's happening in version 3 on the first double click when the editor is closed).

Yeah, I don't like that change either.

Another thing that got left behind from 2.x that I really, really loved and apparently nobody else used or even noticed, the main track list method of handling automation visibility. In 2,x. you could actually hide everything but automation envelopes, have a view in a scene with nothing but automation envelopes, which was great for editing. Not automation tracks, but child envelope lanes. I loved that :"feature",

Now you can't hide a parent track without also hiding it's child envelopes.

For version 3.6 I hope the issues with automation timing gets fixed so that different buffer settings and different sample rates all can have the same (and preferably super-accurate) automation timing.

Another wish is automation clips. And automation of several parameters at once (automation of macro controllers or a way to use VCAs for more than just volume).

I also hope we'll see other enhancements for mixing, like track templates, grouping of plugin parameters for linking adjustments across multiple Channels, true panning (not just balance) for stereo Channels, a Send utility plugin (kind of like Pipeline) that can function as a Send from anywhere in the plugin chain (f.i. post Auto-Tune and lo cut but pre compressor and EQ), pre fader FX rendering, an easier way to make Sidechain connections (f.i. by using drag and drop) and several customizable color options for Inserts, Sends and volume fader handles in the mixer (like a red fader helps us identify a VCA other colors could help us identify parallel busses f.i.; and Inserts could optionally be color coded according to type of effect, f.i. EQs being a certain color, comps another color etc.; and Sends to sidechains could be one color and Sends to reverbs another color etc.).

Lastly, deeper macro and scripting support.

....

Nice list, I agree with all.

I hope that Presonus releases a 3.6 series before jumping to 4.0 - and I hope 3.6 serves basically as a "fit and finish" release.

There seems to be a couple of little loose ends that don't seem 100% done yet.

I would really like for Presence XT (with Editor) to have a little better integration into S1. We have a "send to SampleOne" command but no "send to Presence XT" command. The way Logic implemented its "create new Sampler instrument" is really nice. The ability to transient detect, slice, import into Presence XT, and then drop back into a MIDI track all in go would be a great time-saver.

Yes, very annoying behaviour. I created a thread when S1v3 came out as I was sure that was a bug...

Great, thanks. And I agree with you on this one.

Add to that a way to get a couple of customizable shortcuts (using both the top bar menu and keyboard commands) for editing a file in an external audio editor, and I would happy. F.i. one for Wavelab and one for iZotope RX.

Plus: even better integration with ReVoice Pro (preferably ARA).

None of it is revolutionary, I guess, but that's because Studio One is already really, really good. Your "fit and finish" and "a couple of little loose ends" comments are on point as far as I'm concerned.
