Yep!

Visibilty Agent:

Everything shown up to minute 5:55, Studio One already has built in. It get's interesting here:

That's a rather comprehensive video that shows the integration of Lemur with the Visibility Agent.
Extended show and hide functions are realized with the PLE:

Ja ok, ich ging der Reihe nach und war bei dem ersten Link.
Also wie gesagt, meine Cubase Tests sahen nicht rosig aus. Also was ist die Referenz?

jonwright wroteCubase has fantastic 'visibility agents'.

The best being simple key commands to 'Show Only Tracks With Data' and 'Show All Tracks'.

Then I use the 'Find' command. For example I'll type in V1 Tremolo, select the one I want from the results and the track will be unhidden and visible in the project.

Thanks for working on that Lawrence.

I'm probably being dumb, but how do I activate the feature? I've installed the script in the 'scripts' directory?

jonwright wroteI have my 'Master Stem' bus channels, such as Strings, Hits, SFX, etc, and each one of these 'Stem' buses has a child FX channel, to be used as a send reverb for the instruments in that stem group.

So when I create a track (in this example a V1 articulation), I'll route the output to the 'Strings' bus and also send it to the 'Strings Reverb' FX channel, the output of which is also routed to the 'Strings' bus.

Each 'Master Stem' channel will also have an EQ, limiter, etc on it.

This all makes exporting stems at the end very easy. Of course you can keep it simpler if stems aren't required,

That's exactly the way I'm doing it, too

As far as adding instruments goes, I don't have that many presets, just a handful of my favourite sounds that I know I'll used more often than not.

Track presets have improved with the new Track Names to Channels command, but I do wish they saved the colour too.

There are several ways to solve that problem, either you use Lawrence' script to color tracks according their name or you put tracks in folders, so that they get the color of the folder: viewtopic.php?f=152&t=26716

The cool thing with folders is: you can assign busses to them and tracks inside these folders will automatically be assigned to that bus.
However, if you drag over instrument presets, you have to move the track out and back into the folder: viewtopic.php?f=151&t=26671

Another problem I have with presets (and his isn't limited to S1) is that if a library gets updated, or you move it, all of those presets are then out of date. Not much bother normally, but when you've set up 100 different articulations it can be a pain!

Yes, that's indeed a problem that no DAW addresses.

Cheers Stevie. I tend to avoid folders on smaller projects, but I'll definitely try it out, and take a look at the scripts too.

Oh, sorry. The action name was Track > Filter Tracks... and I'd intended to change it to Search Tracks... before sharing it which is why I didn't list the action name, but I forgot to change it.

It's been changed in the package if you want to download it again, or just use the action above, nothing else changed.

Hey there,

I didn't read every single posting, but I know about the FR or the issue. Whatever it is.
I did some tests by myself. I want to compare S1 and Cubase.

The result. It takes a while to setup a clean song with 1000 empty instrument tracks in S1. And loading the song takes around 20 seconds. That's bad indeed. Or not, don't know.

The Cubase test result: during the action to create 1000 tracks cubase crashed.
And stopped working etc.

Interesting. (thank you Ari).

_Stevie_ wrote: Haha, yes indeed, I recently tested this with setting up 1000 tracks (from scratch) in Cubase and had the same result. It took an eternity or it crashed. I guess, what I did in the past is: setting up my tracks one by one and then de-activating them. That's how I always start with my template, all tracks are disabled. I guess that's how Jon does it, too

I know I'm done here.

Next tests: Now I create with some workarounds 300 tracks in cubase. (it always crashes when try adding more than 100 tracks). After creating 300 tracks I used the zoom slider to the right in the arrangement.

Result: It crackles and is stuttering all the time. Empty MIDI tracks. 300. Is not usable.

So I don't know what we are talking about?!

The main question is: How do you handle (very) large orchestral templates (in Studio One)?

We're also discussing current (and possible future) tools to help navigate big songs/projects/sessions.

(When mixing I can quickly approach 150 channels in the console including FX channels, parallel channels, folder tracks with busses, utility busses, VCAs and everything, and this is just for regular band music/beat music, so I understand how orchestral templates with all their timbres and articulations can quickly add up to 1000 tracks, not to mention number of channels in the console if every mic perspective were each to have their own channel as well.)

I'm bumping this old thread because I've been building a huge orchestral, choir, synth, drums etc. template and S1 is indeed useless when it comes to a larger template. No matter how I like the workflow of Studio One I just have to switch to Cubase meanwhile they fix sluggish and slow loading.

If you agree, please put some thumbs up in my request about the subject: https://answers.presonus.com/34841/opti ... low-killer

Hi guys, Bumping the thread, cause of 4.5 update. Has this performance issue with large projects improved at all?

Well, I don’t know about 1,000+ tracks since I rather work with keyswitches in Studio One as opposed to working with one articulation per track. My ideal workflow would be realized once Studio One adds an Articulation Manager, AND a robust Video Engine, but I digress. The template I created had around 100 tracks. However, these are 100 Instrument tracks, not MIDI, so the load may be similar to a 1,000 MIDI track project. At least I’m assuming that since there were several Instrument tracks loaded up with at least 5, sometimes double that, articulations each. OK, so maybe that’s less than 1,000 tracks, lol. Still, it’s technically way more than 100 tracks.

Anyway, the point is that Studio One didn’t take a crazy amount of time to load this template. The exception is when I load samples from Audio Imperia’s Jaeger. For some reason that sample library takes a REALLY long time to load, even after Batch Re-Saving the library in Kontakt 6. Unfortunately, due to the current video engine in Studio One, I haven’t pursued working on a film in Studio One. It was basically just an experiment I did to see how Studio One would handle an orchestral template, and it performed well from what I could tell. But the Video engine in Studio One is EXTREMELY picky, and I just don’t have the patience to deal with transcoding every cue I get sent my way. Plus, no Articulation Manager. I rather use Cubase, as much as I would love to use Studio One instead.

Just to revisit the ,"how many tracks" do you need and all that thing... it's workflow based.

There are logical reasons for some to load tons of tracks in a template, loading each individual articulation on a separate track for example instead of using key switches. One reason is to print scores (Send to Notion, export a MIDI file, whatever) from songs with key switches in them is a problem, as to the scoring app it's just another MIDI note, the key switch. Another reason is the inability to transpose on the arrange timeline when using key switches as they'd transpose as well.

So sure, an orchestral composer may have a 300+ track template with most tracks disabled, and the Violin group by itself may be 15 tracks of different articulations. It's all based on how they prefer to work, and like someone said earlier, you'd never use all of those tracks anyway you just need them there accessible in case you do decide to use some of them.

When you finish the composition, remove all of the disabled or unused tracks and instruments and save it.

Well, that “how many tracks do you need” was not the original question. It was “how do you handle large orchestral templates?”. Also, the person who revived this thread asked a different question regarding loading times.

Finally, you’re preaching to the choir. I’m sure everyone in this thread is aware of the shortcomings each method (Keyswitches vs separate MIDI tracks per articulations) has. Like I mentioned, using an Articulation Manager is my preferred method precisely because it mitigates both enormous track counts, as well as having Keyswitch notes affecting scores. Unfortunately Studio One doesn’t have an Articulation Manager so FOR ME using Keyswitches would be the way I would score in Studio One (except I don’t, mainly due to the lackluster Video Engine, among other things, so I just score in Cubase instead).

Hope you don’t take this as a personal attack, as that is not the intention. Just wanted to clarify what people are REALLY asking in this thread.

Take care!
