Hello. So i am having an issue with studio one 3. Any time I try to record midi I am having trouble playing back what I played. So when I select a sound from a vst I can hear it fine when I'm playing it and I can hear it fine while recording even after I record it I can see the midi data or the notes I played but when I try to play it back I am not getting much sound back. Sometimes I will hear 1 note here and there but I never hear the whole chord progression that I played. But for some reason when I use drum kits and play them via midi through sample one I can hear the drums I played just fine. If anyone has any idea of what i can try to fix this if really appreciate the help!!!

What are you using for a controller? The included QWERTY Keyboard or your own midi keyboard? Which ever... it has to be set up and selected on the track which you've placed the virtual instrument (Mojito, Presence (etc.) that your recording. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pfs8dCR7pY4 This pertains to your exact question. http://support.presonus.com/entries/119087-I-connected-my-keyboard-to-my-computer-using-a-MIDI-cable-Why-can-t-I-hear-anything-

Did you find a solution? I'm having the same problem. The keyboard is connected and plays the virtual instrument even when recording. And the velocity on the midi data is full; however, during playback there is no sound. Except for the first note. The other notes are either silent or the volume is very low

I know I'm way late here, but in case anyone stumbles across this and has the same problem. There could be more complex solutions, but here is one reason you can hear the midi device play, but it won't play back.
When you record, within the midi instrument, in the top right hand corner, you choose the device and it turns yellow. You also choose the device for the direct input in the middle of the screen. When you play back, the direct input in the middle should be changed back to none. I've notice in the past when it won't playback, i have to change it back. |
If you click on a note and move it is there a tiny little note still there at the start of it?
You can select all and use the remove notes command to remove short notes and clean them all up at once. Somehow a short note is created so it sends a note off event which shuts off the real note before it gets a chance to sound.

Would also be interesting to know if you can produce this behavior with any VST, or just a specific one.
It sounds very similar to some issues I had in the past using IK Multimedia VST's for some orchestral scoring. Turned out S1¸was fine, but the VST was not too stable.

sometimes this happens to me and can happen on any of my instruments... all i do is save the work... close the program and reopen... select the saved work... open and wallah the instrument plays the midi. don't know why but it just does and has since i started using S1v2. i have yet to be able to force it to do this behavior... so i can't give specifics. it is never consistent and does not happen often so i think it may just be my system with a hiccup... i just deal with it... not a biggy imo cheers
jay p.s. this also happens in FL Studio from time to time (at least to me) so i can't really blame S1 for it also this behavior has done it now on two different computer systems so i can't blame my set up either. maybe it is a corrupted load at least on my end cheers |
Ok so i don't know if some of you still having trouble with midi notes not playing back, but the same things happend to me and i find the solution. I hope it will work for you.
I was du to some tiny notes played at the same time. When i moved some midi notes i noticed that there were tiny notes hidden behind my main notes. And then i noticed that in the midi settings i had two keyboard on the same ports. One was my old configuration but i never removed it. I never had problem with it before but one night my session crashed i don't know why, and when i restarted this problem appears. I noticed that i could play midi from my old sessions without any pb. So I remove the previous keybord on the midi settings and the pb was solved. I'm sure i am a bit late for this answer but maybe it will help other persons in the futur. |
Tacman7 wroteIf you click on a note and move it is there a tiny little note still there at the start of it? great post... this was exactly the problem I was having with the creation of these "tiny little" midi notes at the start of each main note. The delete notes procedure does remove them. However does anyone know how to prevent them from being created in the first place? I am using a Yamaha MX49 as the midi controller. It's native midi out is input into the midi in port of a AudioBox 44VSL, with Studio One Artist 4.6.2. thanks in advance |
tomriddle2 wroteTacman7 wroteIf you click on a note and move it is there a tiny little note still there at the start of it? Did you ever figure this out? This is happening to me on Studio One 5.5.2 with my Arturia Keystep when the MIDI input is set to "All Inputs". If the MIDI input is set to "Keystep" then the double note triggering does not happen. However I want to keep the input on "All Inputs" so I can easily use other midi triggers around the studio. The double note trigger does not happen in other daws with the same keystep midi controller. |

NoiseCoalition wroteDid you ever figure this out? I never knew what caused it in the first place, gremlin. It would happen when I record from midi keyboard into S1 as I remember. Haven't seen it happen in a long time. Kind of a rule with me not to ever use all inputs, causes some other problems as well, unreliable results as I remember. Many things won't work like that.

gregburcham wrotejazzundso wroteAre you aware that the thread is 5 years old and the last reply was over a year ago? Welcome to the forum. The initial question was about Studio One 3. This version is between 5 and 8 years old, so it makes no sense to compare VST / MIDI / audio engine issues between different major versions since too many things have changed internally. Feel free to argue on a technical basis. But this is not the right place for insults.
