I've found one mention of this issue in the forum, and no resolution given. I've used Projects to master songs for a long time, but recently, when I import a song into Project, a chunk of the file is replaced by massive white noise. This occurs a couple of measures into the song and lasts maybe five seconds.

It does not happen every time, but most times.

I made sure the song was not clipping, it does not seem to be related to level. I don't think I've made any changes to the computer, hardware, or software recently.

It's made Project completely useless, and I value it greatly, so any thoughts would be appreciated!

Check your plugins... one of them will be in demo mode I guess.

Thanks, George. Can you clarify what demo mode is? Bypassed or just not turned on?

Are you using one of the non-free Melda plugins by any chance? I know they do that when your demo time runs out.

Demo mode is that when you download a payed plugin, it will run for certain time in full mode. When you reach the end of that trial period, plugins tend to talk like "thanks for using the demo", dip the volume randomly or play white noise.

This can also happen if you upgrade your OS. When you do that, you will have to re-register your plugins.

Thanks, guys. No, no Melda plug-ins, and no demo/trial-period plug-ins.

Oh, wait ... I have an Eventide Ultra Reverb ... it was free, but I don't think it's a demo or anything, I think it was just a limited function freebie to let you know how wonderful Eventide is so you would want to buy their full-blown stuff. It never mentioned a trial period or asked for payment, it was just free for a limited time.

If you know what plugin might cause this, then great. If you don't know, maybe you can go plugin by plugin shutting them down and trying which one does this.

That seems logical. I can start with any plug-ins common to the songs this has happened with.

I can't figure out a logic on why it only does this for a few seconds, a few seconds into the song. Seems like if something were malfunctioning, the entire file would be corrupted.

For anyone reading this looking for a solution, here's my follow up:

I disabled all plug-ins on the songs I was importing into Project and they came in without the chunk of white noise. Then did a process of elimination, turning plugins on one at a time, etc.

T-RackS TR3 was the issue. When I disabled those plugins, the songs imported into Project with no noise, even with all the other plugins enabled.

So thanks to all for your input, I didn't realize a plugin could cause a weird problem like that.
