KORG nanoKONTROL 2

Anyone using Korg's NanoKontrol2 with Studio One 3? I've used it with Logic for a a few years to inout CC data with faders and it works pretty much as it should. In Studio One 3 it works to some degree, but some of the faders aren't sending out the right CC#s (or S1 isn't receiving properly). I've got the latest drivers etc. Wondering if anyone else is using it successfully?

thanks!

Depends to some degree on what you call 'successfully'. I don't use mine much these days but when I first set it up it seemed to work properly, all except the pan pots which don't do anything.Track selection, transport, mute, solo, record-arm, and gain faders all work fine, though.

Setting it up was simply a matter of going into the Configure External Devices tab, clicking Add, then selecting nanoKontrol 2 from the Korg section in the list on the left, then selecting nanoKONTROL2 in the Receive from and Send to drop-downs. However, I seem to recall that you have to press and hold down the SET MARKER and CYCLE buttons when you first plug the unit into a USB port.

As for the pan pots, I seem to recall this coming up here in the forums a month or two ago. Some one posted that they'd managed to get them working but didn't say how. A search should show up the thread. When I turn one of mine and look in the Control area at the top left of S1's main window, I see "Knob 1 nanoKONTROL2 with a value of 0.00 when I turn it anti-clockwise and 100.00 when I turn it clockwise. In other words, no intermediate values.

UPDATED 9/2/2018:
I sent PreSonus updated nanoKONTROL2 device files that fixed the following problems:
    - Erratic pan movement
    - Set, Previous & Next Markers buttons not working
    - Cycle (Loop On/Off) & Track buttons not working
These files are now provided (including improved tweaks to what I sent them) and working in Studio One 4. Please note that I have tested and confirmed that these files also work in Studio One 3.5.6.

Studio One 3.5.6 users: The attached zip file contains the same updated files (included with Studio One 4) required to replace the faulty ones currently installed on your system.

Just wanted to really thank you for this!!

Been bugging me for ages and finally tried to get it solved and came across your thread, saved me a lot of work. Thank you.

Just wondering, is it normnal for the PAN centre to be a little bit off centre on the actual hardware knob? Mine seems to only hit center when the hardware knob is it about 10 or 11 o clock and not in the middle (at 12 oclock)?

Thanks,

J

Glad it helped you! It took awhile to figure it all out. I was surprised that neither KORG or PreSonus had a device driver that worked.
My pan knobs are spot on the 12:00 position when centered. What mode do you have set when you plug it in to the USB port?

Hello,
I am adding my version of Trucky's bindings (thank you very much, sir!). These are the differences:

  • The eight channel is connected to the master out.
  • Knobs are not binded to the pan by default.
  • Slightly renamed Marker Left/Right and Track Left/Right channels.

The installation procedure is the same as in Trucky's one:
from "[StudioOne3 installation folder]\devices\Korg" remove "nanoKONTROL 2" and extract there this archive instead. And while connecting the nanoKontrol2 to the PC, hold "Marker set" and "<< RWND" buttons.

This is VERY helpful. Since I got the FaderPort 8, I haven't really been using my NanoKontrol 2 other than starting and stopping the transport from the vocal booth, but now this is working the way I want it to! Thanks!

I would recommend to install custom devices in %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\PreSonus\Studio One 4\User Devices\ instead of the program installation folder. That way custom device maps aren't overwritten on program updates. The custom device at least needs it's own classID (generate).

All existing Control Linked parameters need to be directed to the new classID. You can do this fairly simple in the [devicename].surfacedata file (if available) by replacing the surfaceID (which is the old classID) for the new classID.

It's now added and working in the latest Studio One 4 release. See my earlier post above if you need support for using the nanoKONTROL2 with Studio One 3.5.6

I am have just installed S1 3.5.6.46910, x64 and just got my new Korg NanoKontrol2. Can someone pls give me more specific instructions on how to get set up. Is this file from Trucky installed in lieu of Korg DvrTools and acts as the driver? What is the install order and what keys do I press when I first plug in the NK2? Will I still need to do any manual CC message assignments with Korg Kontrol Editor? Do I delete anything first?

Thanks,

George

Please include your system specs (see below) to your signature to help us provide the best response to your question.

1. The device files included in Studio One 3 for the KORG nanoKONTROL2 do not support all of the available functions so you'll need to replace them with those that I included in my earlier post.
viewtopic.php?p=153216#p153216

2. You only need to install the latest KORG driver if your operating system doesn't detect it. I'm not sure about Mac but the latest Windows 10 (1803) OS does detect it properly (see below) so the KORG driver is not needed. In either case no manual CC message assignments are required.

3. You need to setup and enable "Mackie Control" mode for the nanoKONTROL2. To do so, hold the [Set] MARKER and [<<] buttons down while plugging the USB cable in to your computer. This is only required the first time you plug it in:

4. Finally, you need to add it to Studio One as an external device:

Hope this helps to get it working for you.

Thank you. I updated my signature as you requested. I think I almost have it. Where/which are the files that I need to replace with your update?

Thanks,

George
