OK this is weird. I added MIDI CC 1 to the track (again, there was no option for Pitch Bend).

I hit "Write" on my Faderport.

I PLAYED the song.

When the song reached the part where I had already done Pitch Bend in the Piano Roll, a NEW automation track was created under the track with all the Pitch Bend data from the piano roll that I had played to in the song.

I also tried this: hit Write on the Faderport.
Play the song.
Wiggle the Pitch Bend Wheel.
Result = Nothing. No new automation on the Track. But yes, automation on the Piano Roll.

Is this another random bug (I've encountered 4 so far)? The others were solved by rebooting... I'l try that.

I really hope that I'm just an idiot and there is some setting that fixes this all. I have work to do!

Attached pic shows the MIDI CC 1 I created -- which did NOT record data. Underneath that is the magically appearing Pitch Bend -- which I did NOT add manually!

I don't have any issues adding pitchbend or modulation (CC1) automation to an instrument track.

Studio One shows you all parameters that the instrument exposes for automation. In your case, you seem to use the VST3 version of Oddity3. So it fully depends on Oddity3's available parameters. Actually, no reason to insult Studio One's dev team.

Also this is what MPE automation editing looks like, you have to click on each note to see the associated automation:

I'm opening a ticket for this. It's not right for it not to read existing automation. Yes, I hit the A key. I toggled Show Automation many times.

The bug is: why doesn't the Track create an Automation Lane to show existing MIDI data that lives on the Piano Roll? Why does it only live as a gray ghost?

Thanks for your responses, but none are applicable. But thanks for reaching out!

Oh, BTW, this is the issue on every track I have for a dozen different VST synths from different companies, but when I added a Presonus VSTi, it actually let me select PB and MW. Small comfort since I do not use those. And since the issue is that the track won't show and let you edit MIDI data, this is irrelevant. I'm not talking about a particular VST synth parameter, I'm talking about MIDI data, which is synth agnostic.

I opened a support ticket for this and two other major issues (autoscroll randomly stopping and orphan instruments).

No -- I am taking about preexisting MIDI data that is living on the piano roll. MIDI CC data is agnostic, it shouldn't matter what the VSTi is at all. Why doesn't existing Piano Roll data show up in an automation lane in a useable way instead of as a gray ghost?

If you want to know what's in a midi file there's a free program called Anvil Studio that has list edit. So you can see every event in a list.

When I open midi files off the internet the CC's show up in (Edit)Part automation for me: Lot depends on the midi file, some have problems.

But S1 never claimed to be Cubase, if you want the ultimate in midi control and editing that's where it's at.

How it's showing up as a ghost, I'm not exactly sure.

Have you tried opening the tracks panel (horizontal lines icon). There, you have selections of any track, or automation lane for each track, or for that matter, even dedicated automation track lanes such as any you created from mixer channels, cc data, etc.
Just drop the arrow in the tracks panel for that track.

I suspect because the automation is gray, you'll either open an existing track you didn't yet see, or perhaps by clicking the dot maybe it will free it up.

Just thought that may be a path you hadn't explored.

If you still have gray automation tracks, it's somehow ghosted based on something that was moved, deleted, or dissassociated. We're a little removed from what may have happened not having the song file, but that's my guess.

Because Track Automation is not Part Automation. That's how Studio One works. No need to report it as a bug.

Exactly, I think the OP is having some difficulty in differentiating between event automation, and track automation based on his explanations.

As to the ghosting, things just don't up and leave (well, they do around me sometimes :) ).
I suspect some relevant instrument to the automation, or CC was inadvertently deleted. That's how gray entities occur. It would be wise to watch and select from the Control Link (upper left). Drag down with the hand any parameter that's selected. Or, perform it the way Jazzundso illustrates. Then, just some care with what the automation is tied to. as in dont dekete things to make automation ghost.

Even using Rewire in something like Reason, it's amazing how Studio One sync's through that and sees any or all parameters. Again, delete something and things ghost. So I wouldn't claim bug unless I was very clear about what's going on. Wouldn't that make a great banner!

Probably best to try and duplicate the issue in a new song to test out if ghosting is still occuring. I'm leaning towards it wont. We all initially get a little frustrated, but issues usually iron themselves out when either starting a new song, or Saving As incrementally so one can go back to see where the villian lives.
