Thank you Presonus you have saved me $261.07 AUD - That's a lot of money for a meager upgrade !!!
Not enough to tempt me. Also has anyone watched the Production Expert's 6 video. Experts I think not. Just goes to show how shallow these experts TEST things. Watch the part about the lyrics, it would be nice if they were on a separate window HUH! even the promo shots show that. Any idea when V7 will drop? |
Here's another thing that people may not care about, but it's a huge deal for me: You can now trigger synths directly with the Jam Origin guitar-to-MIDI plug-in, without having to run Jam Origin stand-alone and use something like loop MIDI to get the data into Studio One. You insert the Jam Origin plug-in an audio track, and set the instrument sidechain input to MIDI Guitar 2. Tracking, response, and bending is much better when run this way.
This is especially significant now that Mai Tai etc. support MPE. You can bend or apply controllers to individual notes of guitar chords, and have the synthesizer equivalent of pedal steel. Fun stuff, for sure.

peterbirch wroteWatch the part about the lyrics, it would be nice if they were on a separate window HUH! even the promo shots show that. FWIW, I do a lot of narration in Studio One so I was looking forward to this feature. Actually, you can duplicate the lyrics in a separate window, and specify font size with the edit menu (click on the wrench icon). I choose the maximum 60 point font size, and then I can read it on one monitor from across the room, away from any computer noise, while I can see Studio One's recording progress in the other monitor. The lyric window is resizeable with word wrap, and you can justify text left or center. The lyric window also responds to a keyboard's page up/page down function keys. I have a wireless keyboard next the mic, so I can scroll through the narration as I read it. When it's time to edit, having the narration on the timeline as well makes it easier to know where you are within a narration file. Up until now I've been using Markers, but they're not as well-suited to this purpose. With lyrics you don't have to actually listen to find out what you're saying, you can see the section where you're saying something. It makes finding your way around in long narration much easier. I suspect audiobook people and podcasters would find this useful. The one enhancement I'd love to see is a "find" function for lyric text. For example, if you were doing an educational video on mics and typed "proximity effect," it would jump to the section where that was mentioned, based on finding those words in the lyrics track. I also wouldn't mind being able to bump the point size up to 72, but that's not a big deal. Anyway, there are some other aspects of interest, so I expect to do a Friday Tip someday on Lyrics track details and applications.

neiljordan1 wroteStill not standardized the icon size & shape for macOS? That really would've been a simple, non-dev task. If you just look at the channel its not visible, I agree. But once things play you can tell by the meter (single vs dual meter jumping up/down) that its stereo or mono. Maybe not perfect, but served me well enough so far.

neiljordan1 wroteIt also sucks that they did a notable revamp on ProEQ, but didn’t add a Middle/Sides option anywhere! That would’ve been a great addition. Once you go FabFilter, you never go back

I'm not going to criticise the update that Presonus have obviously worked hard on, but I do have to say that there's nothing compelling there for me.
Track templates I've asked for many times, so that's the one great thing here. But would I pay £130 for that? Well, no. Lyrics, global video track, 'advanced collaboration' - I won't use these, though I know video and lyrics have been in demand by many so I understand the inclusion. Improved plugins - I already have all the 3rd party ones I need. Mixer improvements - I'm sure I'd appreciate these but I never had a problem with the mixer, so again it's not something to throw money at. What I really want to know about are bug fixes, such as whether they fixed the Project Page bug where the audio engine stops between every track exported, resetting your compressors and limiters and causing glitches between tracks that are meant to play seamlessly. Because if not, the price of this upgrade is money I might be better off spending on a competitive crossgrade to Cubase. |
i think Most users are disappointed with this upgrade
i go watch Lukas Ruschitzka & Marcus Huyskens youtube channel , they channel also no much video new features compare to S1 5 come out,is excited ,and now is disappointed...

After using 6 and the stuff I know about (man, there is allot I don't! ) it's invaluable.
The track preset deal is worth more than you think. I do allot of guitar/bass stuff that relies on extra plugs. Now, all I have to do is drag/drop a track I have set up to the browser and WALLA! Done (well, except that you have to rename it: It would be nice in a future update to have it ask a name when doing so) . One kinda drawback is that if you drag/drop an instance and you have a track record armed, now you'll have two record armed. This might be because the drag/drop presets I have were record armed when making them. I'll have to check. Fader flip is amazing. Assigned it to a key command and now adjusting multiple send control/s is a breeze. No more fiddling with those little sliders. Huge time saver for me. "Overview" is super handy as well. Again, a key command and BAM! It's right there, so much easier than having to have the mixer/inspector open to open a plug GUI. Customizable stuff for mixer and such is really nice. So often I think "why do I need this" or "why isn't this here" and now it's to my needs. If I ever need more, just save that view and it's available anytime. Others won't care, which is of course fine. But that alone is amazing, and there is so much more to look forward to. |
Robdp wroteYeah gotta say I was surprised that we still don't have a way to automate pitch too... this is a must!! I think every DAW but studio one does this now. I am not even sure they can do that in S1 because of the way it cache's audio. I could be wrong though ofc. They would have to do something like Cubase did with a dedicated sample track i think they call it. You can't adjust the S1 DAW tempo in real time without files being updated by the cache for example hence it glitches on playback unlike say Ableton. This leads me to believe that's why they avoided pitch envelopes per audio track as the cache would have to recalculate and update every adjustment in real time. |
reggie1979beatz wroteAfter using 6 and the stuff I know about (man, there is allot I don't! ) it's invaluable. The track preset is a rehashed Music Loop feature that you could already do with Music Loops. Yeh it's a bit more user friendly but it's not worthy of a top 5 feature release. |
?
I'm not talking about instruments mind you. This is A BOON for audio tracks! If you have a track with all the stuff (any plugs you want) you can now simply drag/drop and save it. Not only was that not possible in 5, but it saves any sends you have too! Coupled with overview and fader flip, this is truly the bees knees. But I digress, clearly my excitement is only self appreciated |
reggie1979beatz wrote? Your right Reggie and i am happy for you I think it's a great feature for some or the new guys. I am just saying it's hardley something new they came up with. All the ingredients already existed within Studio One to some extent. Stream lined more user friendly feature would probably be a better description. |
reggie1979beatz wrote Don't get me wrong, if I ever upgrade to 6, I'll use this. But I have got used to working around it with Import Song Data, so it's not a killer feature for me. I've read the info on Fader Flip twice now and I've no idea what it does or why I'd need it. Maybe because I only have 2 or 3 sends per song and no cue mixes it just doesn't fix anything for me? Same with the Mixer Overview - I don't need that, because everything fits in the mixer channel view just fine. |
For me this was definitely a v5.9 update.. whilst I appreciate the features, it feels very lackluster to call this V6.
Colors for example… how did they not think to update this? We need a standard color palette… I don’t want to use a 3rd party color tool and every time I deselect a track I want it to be the color I chose, not a dimmed version of it. |
marchppner wroteI was really, really hoping (and waiting) for Dolby Atmos in v6, now I have to switch to something else… Can I ask - in the gentlest way possible - why I keep seeing this request everywhere? Are you all mixing the latest Marvel movie in Studio One - or what? And does everyone who asks for this know that ATMOS licensing will simply make a very expensive S1 upgrade even more expensive (Especially for those who do know even know what it is)? Again - nicest way possible - I really do want to know what those who keep asking - really need this for? Cheers VP

Can anybody confirm or deny if the "issue" where you drop a midi over a certain size into a project instead opens a brand new project is fixed/change so the midi goes into the project you drop it into ?
