Hello,

I recently asked Presonus if I could use a Quantum 2626 with a Windows PC that only has a USB-C port and they told me I can.
Before I buy it though, I wanted to ask here. I have heard from some friends that if the thunderbolt is mentioned as 'thunderbolt over usb-c' it means that there is a usb-c connector but it's still considered a thunderbolt. So, if my PC doesn't support Thunderbolt, I still won't be able to use the Quantum.

I only have a usb-c port, not thunderbolt. Can I use the Quantum 2626?

It's a Thunderbolt 2 interface, if you don't have Thunderbolt 2 or later then it won't work (looking at the specs on Presonus's website).

Can you give us the make/model of your motherboard in your signature?

Intel i9 9900K (Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE motherboard), 32GB RAM, EVGA Geforce 1070 (Nvidia drivers).
Dell Inspiron 7591 (2 in 1) 16Gb.
Studio One Pro 6.x, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit, also running it on Mac OS Catalina via dual boot (experimental).
Presonus Quantum 2626, Presonus Studio 26c, Focusrite Saffire Pro 40, Faderport Classic (1.45), Atom SQ, Atom Pad, Maschine Studio, Octapad SPD-30, Roland A300, a number of hardware synths.

So no dice there.
I would email Presonus back (ask to speak to a team leader) and ask them why the heck a motherboard with no Thunderbolt can run a Thunderbolt interface, unless there is some hidden USB 3 interface on this box that isn't documented (unlikely), even so it still wouldn't run on Thunderbolt.

If the support tech thinks a USB-C socket is the same as Thunderbolt (and yes Thunderbolt does use USB-C) that is very much a schoolboy error.

I have to admit it was one of the Presonus team members to actually say that, and If I didn't ask here I would havealready bought the 2626. They also sent me this link:

Unless you buy a Thunderbolt 3 PCI card no dice I suggest.
