And... I figured out why, but...
If you have "Cursor follows edit position" enabled, and click on a midi note that's not at the cursor position, the cursor jumps to the start of the clicked note, but the note doesn't sound (Note: Audition notes is enabled). Turn off "Cursor follows edit position", and no issue. In case it's something in my setup , I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm. |
Yes you are right. If you click the note for a second time I found it does audition though. Personally I would not want the cursor jumping all around to every note I clicked anyway so it seems it is best left off for that operation.
Or you can have Cursor follows selected and use the speaker icon to audition notes though. Even with Audition notes turned off. The cursor also always follows if you are using the speaker icon. Even if you have cursor follows switched off. The mouse wheel brings up the tool box too making it very easy to switch tools.

I have this problem as well and its extremley
Annoying... if you click twice more than Likley it will delete note..if it does'ent sound I dont remember this being a problem in earlier Releases...and sometimes it will sound so it Must be buggy behaviour... |
I use the Speaker icon for this kind of thing.
On my system, I agree that with "Cursor follows edit position" we have to click the note twice to hear it. This has been reported. |
Glad i read this thread....turned off cursor follows edit ...now i hear note i wish to edit prob solved
...cheers |
Although maybe not exactly what the OP desired, another technique to 'sound' the notes is to sequence through them using the left and right arrow keys.
I use this technique a lot to ensure my melodies are congruent & correct.

The left/right arrows are another great way to audition notes as mentioned. Note too that if you are using the left/right arrows and you land on a note, the up/down arrow will also change the note which is a nice accurate way of moving notes around.
The left/right arrows will only audition the bottom note of a chord though. (if all the notes are in the exact same time position) The speaker icon will play all notes in a chord. Audition Notes also has to be on for the notes to be heard.
