I bought my Macbook Pro used for $300, and an external hard drive for $79. With a little help from the guys here on the forum, I was up and running in less than a week. Simple and cheap, and I love it!
I have a friend who does reuphostery work. He said he could cut me some "stiff" foam and sew it in. I just thought if I have the wrong bag, it would be nice to get the correct one. The dealer where I bought it has three more that he got when he ordered mine, and they all are alike.
Sorry for not being clear. The bag is much too large for the mixer. The mixer flops around in it. So I also carry my $2800 bass guitars around in Levi's gig bags. And I would most certainly pick most any case over SKB - strickly from my exprience, mind you.
Anyways, I was looking for someone else who actually owns the PreSonus 16.4.2 factory gig bag, and whether theirs is a good, snug and therefore 'protective' fit. I have searched this and other forums and I am quite aware of the numberous "road case' choices that are out there, in fact I have a Road Ready mixer case that the 16.4.2 would probably fit in.
The main reason Gig Bags are so attractive to me is that I am 58 and I do most of the load in / load out myself. I would be carring the mixer in and out myself, and I am very carefull with my stuff. Most road case (ATA) type cases are very heavy - even empty. I am considering a Gator G-Mix 20 x 25, as a light-weight alternative.
Is it possible to use two Macbook Pro laptops - one connected to SL1642 via Firewire, and the other with a wireless connection? Should I use a wireless router? I am guessing I would have to download software, drivers, etc. The reason I am asking is because I bought a used Macbook Pro at a pawnshop for $300, and the ipad thingies seem to be higher.
I did see some ipad 1's going for $200/$300 on ebay. But I am thinking I would need a 32GB and a ipad 2.
I also thought about buying a used tower and a monitor to carry around and use with my laptop.
My goal here is to use the SL1642 in a live band situation, and our soundperson mix using a wireless connection with a laptop. Or a ipad if that would be better. Doing this, I would eliminate the need for a snake to run back to the FOH mixer, it could actually be on stage with us.
I also wondered if I could just use a really long firewire cable (50-75 foot)
Okay, got all this done, GEQs avaiable now. Loaded Capture, Universal Control and Studio One. All my effects presets went away, and all my fat channell resets went away.
