Is this rumour true? I certainly hope so! I'm just getting into Pro Tools, and I didn't like the fact that I couldn't use SLive with it, but now looks like I can!

I've never known Sweetwater to blatantly lie with a full screen advertisement.

I'd wait til version 9 comes out to see for sure before going and paying a bunch of hard-earned on it. Looks very hopeful for ProTools users though.

Just checked it out -- it is true. Avid is finally taking the chains off and allowing us to use other hardware -- yahoo!

I just tested PT9 with my StudioLive, and I can tell you that it works. And try as I can, I can't find any issues with it. It shows up as a 32-in, 18-out interface. Not only that, but all the actual names of the StudioLive I/O shows up within PT itself, so there's no guessing as the what any of the inputs or outputs are.

All that said, I;d have to say that the StudioLive makes for a pretty great interface to Pro Tools! What other Pro Tools interface gives you 16 mic preamps and all that DSP?

Might I add to that...for such a sensible price and flexibility.

Well, well, well... I've kept my PT box on the shelf just in case. (I've been meaning to try is as an interface for S1, since it comes up on the list of available devices.) Now maybe I can put it up for sale...

Interesting, and good news, I think. It seems that there are two kinds of people in this world - those who have known about Pro Tools 9 (at least the compatibility with third party audio hardware) for some time now, and those who just heard about it yesterday.

I'm a Windows guy, still running XP on all of my systems (PT9 seems to want Win7), so I won't be jumping on the bandwagon for a while yet, but I'll definitely be stopping by the Avid demo suite at the AES show to see what's up.

if the SL mixer sends info to a computer (such as VSL... moving a hardware fader obviously must send some sort of data to VSL software) , then does this open a door to using the SL as a control surface?

possibly some sort of "interpreter" mini application which would convert what would normally be data for VSL into data that works with other software.

???

That's the Grail! I love the SL, and I'm really happy with the live recording. At home in the studio, it's rather large for an audio interface... Of course if I'm recording a full drum kit and rhythm section from the floor, it's great, but for mixing, it would make a really really really nice control surface... IMHO.

I just figured out that I can bring my 2-trk output from PT back on inputs 17-18 (the SL 2-trk return), thereby leaving all 16 of the SL channels free for input. Pretty cool.

I'm amazed at how smoothly PT9 runs on my system. Despite the outward appearances of "sameness," I suspect that under the hood a lot of work has been done to improve/replace old code. I'll be delighted to be using it with my SL on occasions when I must use PT instead of S1 or Capture.
