So I upgraded to Producer, what happens with the Artist? Can I give Artist to someone else and still use Producer or do I need to keep Artist in order for Producer to work?

You don't need to keep artist to have producer working. However, the EULA does state that you cannot transfer a license when you have used that license as part of an upgrade promotion.

If the license can't be transferred and I have a friend who wants to use my Artist, would he still be able to install it on his computer without transferring the license?

The license file will most likely be invalid wen he tries to activate S1 on his system.

So does that mean I can only activate it on my computer? I noticed that when I go into my software, there is a number next to the Activate link. It says "5 left" for Artist and "4 left" for Producer.

I guess all you can do is try. Did you upgrade to Producer as part of a promotion? Maybe you can email Presonus and get a definitive answer from them. I do remember seeing a post recently regarding license transfers, and what I typed in my first post was mentioned in that thread.

I think sales@presonus.com is the email address you want.

It would technically "work" to install on your friend's computer, but it would violate the terms of your user agreement. If you have multiple computers (work, home, laptop), PreSonus allows you to install on each of them, and you have some backups in case your hard drive fails, you replace your computer, etc.

This is not the same as giving copies away for friends to use. There is a lot of honor system involved, but your friend could not (for example) log in to the forums without using your email and password, since those are what you used to register your software.

It's totally worth the price -- have your friend download S1 FREE or Artist and have his/her own copy

(responding to matt's post)

Yeah, try it and see.

I tend to doubt if they'll let you though, since your ownership of Artist was waht allowed the upgrade, and giving the Artist license to your friend would amount to giving him a free copy of Artist.

Doesn't hurt to ask though.
