Some of the sales material has this marked as USB 1.1 and the marketing graphic has it as a 2x2 USB 2.0. Which is correct?

"This simple, handy little box connects to a computer via USB 1.1, so it works with virtually any PC or Mac, not just newer models."

Looking to get started with this unit. Wanted to buy from a US based company who's growing.

The interface is USB 1.1. Though it is fully USB 2.0 capable.

Appreciate the fast response and clearing up the confusion there.

Should I be considering this as a purchase then given that 2.0 is the current standard and many new machines are now supporting USB 3.0? From appearances it looks like there are beta drivers for this box that will support USB 3.0..am I correct on that?

The beta drivers are users of Mac Mountain Lion OS only...not sure, but I believe the current drivers are already
USB 3.0 compliant....tho from all reports they don't work with all chipsets.

Ok, I'm still running Lion at the moment (MacBook Pro mid-2010 model with an i7 at 2.6Ghz, 8GB of RAM, USB 2.0 ports) and just got back with my new purchase of the AudioBox Studio. Just registered the hardware and software, so I'm off and running.

I will worry about the USB 3.0 issues when I upgrade the MacBook Pro to the newer Retina model and I suspect things will work smoothly by the time I'm ready to spend those hard earned dollars...later this year.

Excitement is now building!

Couple of minor issues for PreSonus to be aware of and perhaps help someone else in the process:

The software in the box was older and when i checked for updates from within this old version, I got sent to an error page instead. No big deal as I found the update on my registration page and updated it from there by downloading and installing manually.

Since the software was updated to a newer version now, it looks like the menus have changed in the manual since they tell you to look under the Help menu for the Studio One Installation... menu for installing additional content. It now appears under the main Studio One menu instead. Again..no big deal just thought I'd mention it.

Never had any problems with it being USB 11.1 though I worried about that a bit at first, it's no problem in terms of the amount of data passing through the unit. I assume the heavy lifting is done by chips in the Abox.

Right, there's no reason to use 2.0 when 1.1 has enough bandwidth for the job.
The AudioBox 22VSL is USB 2.0 if you're concerned, and for $50 you're also getting the realtime dynamics/effects for monitoring/performance.

Given this unit has been out for a while now...I wasn't sure how long it might be supported on newer hardware is all. I hear on you the 22VSL, but since I didn't have anything and only wanted to dip my toe in the water, the AudioBox Studio was a good deal for a beginner like myself.

Yeah, that makes sense. Based on one of your comments I wasn't quite sure you'd pulled the trigger. I see it in your signature now, though.

I don't think you'll need to worry about compatibility anytime soon. It should work as a standard ASIO device for a long time, and the USB iterations are supposed to be backward compatible, but I suppose your mileage may vary.

I suspect a StudioLive is in your future, anyway.

There is absolutely NO reason to buy the AudioBox USB instead of the 22VSL.

The AudioBox is the exact same thing, vulgar language edited by the moderator, and that's why PreSonus redesigned it (supposedly). Don't waste your money or time with it.

Also, if you're limited to USB 1.0 it's time to upgrade your computer. You won't need to be worried about looking for a device that is 2.0, because this probably one out of less than a handful of devices that is on USB 1.

@ ltwhite18,

Perhaps next time you'll actually read the thread and take time to understand it before jumping into the discussion?

My posts clearly stated which hardware platform and USB capabilities I had.

Also, since I had nothing to start with the AudioBox USB Studio came with several items that were valuable at a price point I could enjoy.

Mic, Headphones, the unit and a copy of Studio One 2. Rather a nice deal for $200.00 on sale at a local Guitar Center and will certainly meet my meager needs for now until I learn more.

I can always get a 22VSL later on and still have the use of the Mic, Headphones and software while selling the other unit on eBay.
