Couple of questions here. Are all firewire cables created equal? Also, Im reading that the longest lenght of firewire cable you can run is about 15 feet. Anybody running a longer cable then that?

Nope, some are better than others and there are also different types depending on your needs. I.E. a bilingual cable is what is needed when going from a FireWire 800 port on a computer to a FireWire 400 port on an interface.

And the standard is roughly 15 feet. Anything longer can suffer from signal degradation and dropouts/problems.

Has anyone tried using an active firewire hub to extend the distance beyond 15 ft? Are there any issues?

I've heard of one person who was considering it but he never posted the results.

I personally wouldn't recommend it. I've never seen an adapter that worked for firewire other than Thunderbolt.
