To quickly create 4 points on an envelope for doing a manual adjustment with Alt+Drag. The only thing you need to do is set the quantize value to something small (I used 16ths here) for the range sizing commands, the spacing of the inner points.
Attached below. Feel free to modify and/or upload to the exchange. I just bound it to a random key here for the gif. It uses copy and paste to create nodes and uses range size to slightly decrease the selection width for the inner 2 points. So basically, draw a range, hit a key, Alt+Drag the line.
Obviously, you can do this pretty easily with the transformer but here it is anyway, alternate method.

I just made a macro that splits the range I select (the "ess"), turns it down by 6 db, and adds a crossfade (if you want). Does great for DeEssing. I wish we could have an argument for the size of the crossfade though ...

Ok, either I'm very dense here or there is one step I'm missing to make this macro react the way it should. I installed the macro extension as well as the 4 points macro, and the macro appears in the list of macros. I assigned the backslash key to this macro. So the basic setup is done.
Here are the steps I follow:
1) Select a track and show the volume automation on the track
2) With Arrow tool on, I CTRL+drag across a portion of an audio event to draw a range
3) I press my backslash key to activate the macro. So far, I think I've followed pretty much Mike's instructions.
And yet, the 4 points are not created when I activated the macro, just some bizarre behaviours like a split in the audio event and some unrelated cut and paste of material appearing underneath the main audio event and even that is not happening consistently. And yes, the correct macro was selected.
So where is the step that I'm missing gents?
I'm with 2.0.6, 64 bits.

Not sure what you mean by this part, unless you mean to mute the event. However, after thinkering with the macro some more, and executing each command from your macro individually, it still doesn't work. I'll have to find out what's causing this response, or lack of.
Thanks Mike.

Couple things I've noticed - it didn't toggle snap back on after it was done (easy to fix though) and it doesn't always add the 2nd node for some reason. Not sure why and I'm not sure if I follow the actions enough to fix it on my own.

Thanks Mike.
There is an automation option "Disable Events Under Envelopes" (or something like that), which does that, locks down clips when you go into automation mode so you can edit automation without accidentally editing clips, or use range selectionon envelopes without it also affecting clips.
That option is turned on in my example so none of the edit commands in the macro affect the media clips, only the envelope.
At any rate, the transformer tool is much easier for that edit.

If we disagree, please assume that you're right and I'm wrong. I'll assume the same, that I'm wrong. Let's both save some innocent electrons. Thanks.

I wouldn't get too caught up with this particular macro. It's more of a demonstration of methodology than anything else. Yes, copying a range of an envelope and pasting it back (to the same place in that example) adds nodes at the edges of the paste, which may be a useful methodology in another macro where automation is involved.
S it's more of an example of how to add nodes with macros than anything really super useful.

That's the thing, no node are created at all. In any case, I just tried the transformer tool and you're right, it does work as the gif you posted. It's always fun to try to debug a mystery on your own machine though
