What are the best powered speakers(15's) and best powered monitors(12) with the Presonus Studio 16.4.2. Price is important to know. Budget of $1400-$2000 total. I want something light too! A few old men in my band LOL!

Let me know.

Thanks!

The Yamaha DSR 112s sound great, and they kick hard. Go and give them a listen. I use them for mains on 200-300 in small rooms and 150-200 out side. They sit on EV liveX 18 subs and sound great...

The Prosound web guys did a shootout (I believe) on these and they pretty much found that there isn't a hill of beans worth of difference between the JBL PRX 612, Yamaha DSR -12, the Peavey Impluse 12, Qsc K12 (The KW 12's ,wood, were a bit better sounding but more money), EV XLP12, and ART series by RCF...If you play a lot of difficult hard surface roome the Impules 12's are a good choice with a ribbon tweeter versus a horn that sprays sound

None of which is going to fit into your price specifications unless were talking 2 tops and 1 monitor. The listed speakers start in the $700 range (each) and go up from there.

I assume you specified 15" for mains for low extension? again, the brands above, but more expensive and don't sound nearly as good as their 12" counterparts in the critical midrange, but typically have lower extension.

So that would leave you in the Mackie thump, Behringer, EV tapco, Pyle pro rubber stamp crap...they work, but generally sound only~ok and are more failure prone. You get what you pay for here..

I have repaired a hell of a lot of the Behringers, Thumps, Pyles, and they just use cheap components and drivers.

BTW, I purposely omitted the Mackie SRM's because the build quality and reliability went downhill dramatically when they went overseas, (not sure if they addressed the issues or not) but only marginally better then the bottom feeders and not in the same league as the others listed in my previous post.

There are lots of options, and more all the time but your budget constraints are ... well ..limiting.

for what it's worth -

I work at a major music retailer and we sell a boatload of behringer powered pa speakers. and NONE get returned, have warranty claims, unhappy customers, etc. i never thought i'd say it - but behringer has really jumped up their game - at least for powered speakers.

i have personally owned SRM450s, K12s, KSubs, KW181s, DXR12 (last week!), and KW153 speakers as FOH mains. so i'm used to that level of quality. that said - i've been using Behringer B212d speakers as monitors for 2 years. i beat the crap out of them, and they perform night after night.

as much as anyone else , i'm a behringer-basher. but i'll tell ya - you can't argue results!

I have the B212a, and have had one fail, the amplifier needed some parts. My friend has a pair og the B215a's both have been in my shop numerous times (and he doesn't beat them by any means. I have a band I run for and the drummer has 2 of the B215a's and I have repaired the amps several times and replaced both drivers in his and my friends.. I think the B215's sound like ass... and even with the driverack they aren't even on my list of speakers I would recommend for anything...just too boomy and unruly.

I don't mind the B212's but they do NOT take to any clipping at all. I use one as my cue monitor at the casino. I have 8 of the Anchor extreme powered speakers and they blow the behringers away in every category, and they are 8" X 1". That and I've seen too many in for repair.

I'm far from a B basher, and have had lots of their stuff for DJ work throughout the years and even some of the 3282 mixers for livesound in rowdy bars where I wouldn't take the soundcraft.

We have been running the B212Ds for almost a year (7 of them) as stage monitors and have had zero issues. We don't run them hard and I have the limiter and compressor set on the SL24 Aux channels to prevent any such issues.

We use the QSC K12s and subs for FOH.

I'll back the QSC stuff all day. I have a set of K10's with K Subs, and my church uses KW122's and KW181's. I love them all. They sound incredible, and they get LOUD.

OP:
Budget of $1400-$2000 total.

Can't even get 2 subs so adding another 2 $$$ tops would break the bank totally.

I use the EV LiveX series (15" tops, 18" subs, active) & found some deals & got both of my 15's for just under $1100. You could probably look for some 15" tops & 12" monitors, or find some B-stock. The 15's weight just under 45lbs, and they sound amazing. I definitely recommend them for small bands that need a light setup. (It has cut my setup time down tremendously)

those ELX cabs are nice, but aren't any more bang-for-the-buck than the other more expensive ones - PRX, K and KW, DXR, etc. that said, if you're on a limited budget, the EV ELX powered cabs knock the socks off anything else in that mid-range price point... mackie, harbinger, eons.

although, the best part about the ELX line is - BY FAR - their sub. it really holds its own ... defintely better sound than the Ksub, and nearly as good as the KW sub. very PRX-y, but much less expensive.

Can't help with 15's but here's a pair of 12's for wedges.

And some matching tops could include the RCF ART725a's. I have a pair and they are one of the best plastic box speakers I have come across. 2" horn, 750W RMS cab.

Yea but the 725's pair and 312's would exceed the OP's budget as Gadget mentioned with $2k would get a pair of decent 15's and maybe one wedge. Even the EV live X stuff would exceed the $2K budget with a pair of 15's and pair of 12's.

But a budget is a budget so might have to settle for lower end stuff and just deal with the final results.

If you look around for B-stock or used gear, you can easily fit under $2k, Like I said, my 15's I found for under $1100, & I'm sure if you threw an offer to a company for two 15's & two 12's for $2000 they will probably work with you... Remember, the EV's don'teasily fit into either the lower end category with Behringer, Mackie, etc or the upper end with JBL, QSC, etc. It's more of an intermediate category...just my opinion though. He asked for suggestions, I gave him mine. Whatever he gets, as long as he's happy, that's what matters.
