The problem is the length and quality firewire cable!
Studiolive Firewire chip is sensitive to interference
Long inexpensive cable 5 - the most dropouts
quality cable 3m - fewer dropouts
High Quality Cable 1.8 m + ferrite on both ends - for hours completely without dropout.
So it wants to buy high-quality shielded cable + ferrite on both ends.
A better place the cable outside electricity power cables
Used the 1602 with my mac13 using Capture and UC last night. Given all the problems I have had I was apprehensive, but it worked flawlessly. No dropouts.
D'ont try to record directly on your Mac's HDD. It doesn't work ... You have to plug an external Firewire HDD on the second port of the StudioLive and it works fine on Logic, Capture, StudioOne and so on...
I work on a MacBook Pro 15" under SnowLeopard 10.6.8. and Logic Express 9.
I had to set my buffer size to 256 and the SafeMode of the StudioLive to 2
I encountered this problem the other night with my 16.0.2. Its happened before with my old set up and ive learned that this can actually be caused by a number of things. I use Cubase 6 and if the "Snap" button is on, itll cause the audio to drop sometimes because its snapping itself to the closest measured or beat. The other, your driver. OR my problem the other night was, I was recording AND listening back from a USB Drive and didn't know it, so my computer was having to pull from the USB Drive AND record to it at the same time. The last thing Ive noticed is that if you have over 20 tracks already and you're trying to record more, your driver will be overloaded and the sound will drop out either completely or just a few seconds. Which was ALSO my problem the other night my guitarist gets a bit "track happy" when hes at his house recording alone. He brought a finished song over that consisted only of guitar and bass and it was already 15 tracks of music lol Not cool, especially when you have to record 6 more at the same time on top of it all.

I also have drop out issues.
Past: I used my MacbookPro and Studiolive 16.0.2. for a couple of weeks
I had a live recording session 4 weeks ago and capture worked fine
Present: Today I wanted to use it with Logic 9 on my MacbookPro running on OSX 10.6.8 with 4Gb ram
After session setup in Logic I had problems that during recording playback stopped and logic went out of record mode
Then I got messages that Audio Device no longer available
On the 16.0.2 I noticed repetitive switching between "no driver 44.1 khz and / Driver on / Firewire
In Apple Preferences I could select Firestudio but then again it disappeared from the list of available audio devices
Restart of the entire system in preferred order: All-off / All connections made / Presonus on / MacBookPro on did not solve my issue
I downloaded the last drivers: Universal Control v1.6 - Mac and installed it
Restart of the entire system in preferred order: All-off / All connections made / Presonus on / MacBookPro on did not solve my issue
I also feel that the 16.0.2 gets pretty hot ( no, I'm not covering any vent holes)
Future: So basically I'm about to change from an ambassador of Presonus to a doubtful owner of a not Rock-solid Unit
Please check on this issue and give me thorough advice how to cure it I Love the features of the 16.0.2. as a live mixer, but I start to doubt about the stability of the firewire interface..
Presonus 16.0.2 + Monitor Station
MacBookPro OS 10.6.8 4Gb RAM
MacPro OS 10.6.8 12 Gb 4 x 1Tb
Logic 9/ Protools 9 / Sibelius7
Presonus Studio 1 / Capture
I Spent a few more hours and finally resolved my problem:
1. I removed all software of presonus according to the instructions given in Removing FireStudio family Driver Files 2. I reinstalled Capture and Studio one artist
3 I Installed the latest version of Universal control : PreSonus_UC_16_40.dmg
4. When I launched Universal control it suggested that new Firmware for the 16.0.2 was available and I installed it
I rebooted the computer and relaunched the Studiolive 16.0.2. and selected it in Apple preferences with a buffer size of 512 samples
Now everything works fine! Logic / Capture and Artist..
I checked it with various drives: Internal XSDcard : OK / External USB drive ( WD Elements: OK / LaCie Quadra firewire OK
One note: I lost all my scenes due to the upgrade of the firmware:
Is there a way to export the scenes to an external drive?
I'm back as an ambassador for Presonus! Greaat gear for its price
