Have you gone to "settings" in side VSL Software?

If you're just starting out you're probably looking for the word "Latency" What you're actually looking for is "Samples"

See the pic below and see if you can find this. All machines should look similar to this.

These options are the same for the 22VSL, the 44VSL and 1818VSL.

EDIT: My example shows "Safe" mode. For a good and fast latency feel, set your to either "Normal" or "Fast" Mine was set to safe because i was testing for a client.

Yes, see my edits I made to the post above but I do all my client work, vocals and everything, in 256 "Fast" mode.

Remember, the lower this number, the harder the computer has to work so watch your CPU meter inside Studio One to be sure your machine can handle it.

Oh, you have to make this change with Studio one (or any DAW) closed!!!

This is the reason I sold the VSL 44. It's latency is unbearable in my opinion.

Have you replaced it with something bearable? If so, what?

In the config panel I've set the bufffer size to 32. I am using Cubase 6.5 as DAW and because I have multiple interface, I use asio4all where I have put this buffer size to 64. According to cubase my latency is like 4-5 ms. Also real time latency, for my feeling was as good as non existence. There is no POP or CLICKS anywhere, so I'm happy

Might be a dumb suggestion but did you ever check out your processes under task manager? I was having some issues with latency issues and when I checked my processes I found that I had something I wasn't even using that was hogging up a lot of my CPU (around 60%-80%). I ended that and a couple of other processes and it seemed to help a lot. I haven't run my system through the ringer with tons of effects, eq, compression but when I was experiencing latency, I was running about 30 tracks with about 4-6 tracks running some reverb. When I made those changes I haven't had the problem.

p.s I have 1818vsl
