Well, obviously you haven't run out of things to complain about...

Pointing out simple facts such as that people on iOS devices can't surf to www.presonus.com and access 100% of the content because the site design is lagging behind today's web standards... I guess that's called "complaining" for some people. In my book, however, it's usually called "constructive criticism".

The same goes for the OP's post. It's a healthy kind of user based opinion that fits perfectly well in a balanced discussion forum.

I agree with the OP to some degree, although I think this is a very conscious decision from PreSonus. People are different, and the guys in US seems to be more "whhee-haaah - let's party!" than the guys in Germany who seems more like "Why did you use mov di,0 instead of xor di,di?"

Now, speaking of cosmetics and symbolism... Take for example the .gif image at the top of this forum. It has been there for ages now. Why not let all the subforums have their own dedicated top images? In this Studio One forum, I'd rather see an array of Studio One related images being rotated -- that would probably also add to the overall feeling of this community being even more dynamic and multidimensional.

Frankly, to me the current community image at the top seems to communicate "despair" -- like:

- Rick holding up his hand and looking like "why doesn't this shit work as expected??"
- The guy with a white cap holding his cell phone, trying to call for help
- The guy with the coffee cup getting real close to the flat screens, trying hard to see the microscopic text through his glasses (a setup that really seems alien to me)
- The guys in front of the mics, well... *cough*
- The girl at the right, seems to be biting her nails or something...

I would agree, however, that the dedicated Studio One site looks great and very professional. Lovely design there.

If you can't get to those areas on an iPad, from a cafe, that's not Presonus' issue.

A lot of people on the planet use iOS devices like the iPad and the iPhone. Which means plenty of potential PreSonus customers out there can't fully access www.presonus.com.

In what way is that NOT a PreSonus issue?

No that refers to my JUG and WASHBOARD collection.

But that's not very original. Everybody in the US have a jug and washboard collection. In fact, the guys in Hamburg are working hard on a special plugin for Studio One that will satisfy jug and washboard players. They wanted to make a trancegate but the American HQ said no because of more pragmatic market reasons.

EDIT: Sorry guys, I'll stop drinking now. Soon I'll be Mr Serious again...

No offense taken here my friend, proud of my heritage even when recognized for it.

It remains to be seen what this 'Macro' feature is really about.

But if it let's me create two channels, route them to a single bus channel, pan each of the channels hard right and hard left, then hide both of them and only show the stereo bus channel -- well, then it would make it a bit easier to ReWire devices from the Reason rack...

No, the only result will probably be another flood of hillbillys who praise Studio One for being so "easy" to work with compared to their tape recorder from 1974.

Seriously though, I'd expect a lot of people who otherwise use free audio editors would jump on the free S1 bandwagon. We'll see.

There's some brief mention of it in the vid posted back on the first page, I think it was.

Yes, it will be in 2.0.5. The gist is we'll be able to write macros and make them midi-controllable. There's always a time investment in getting macros right to start with but once they're setup they improve workflow remarkably (you probably know this, just mentioning it as an aside). I've been using my Logitech G13 as a macro controller for S1. Makes life easy. But the addition of midi control to internal macros could be very interesting.

Ah, thanks, this sounds like a very nice and useful concept indeed!

Remains to be seen if it's also scriptable (like e.g. Excel macros), or just some kind of mouse movement / keyboard strokes recorder.

That's actually a pretty good idea.

Not sure that's a good way to treat what will essentialy be potential paying customers... dunno. Ayone can access the forums whether they own S1 or not so how (or why?) would they block free users from the general forums? If you pause and zoom way in on that video you might be able to read some of the text about ithat version on his screen, which is (or will be) relevant to all of this.

Anyway, that would be very Steinberg like even if it were even possible, and I actually don't think it will be.

Yes, it's certainly wise to think such strategies over twice.

It might be a good (or bad) idea is to give further incentive to potential customers (i.e. people who would pay for getting Artist, Producer or Professional). Everybody would be able to read the forums, regardless, but to write in e.g. the Feature Request forum you would have to be a registered user of the commercial editions.

Yes, I agree with this 100%. Since 2009 I remember having seen only one S1 user posting a YouTube video of a psytrance song's playback in Studio One, but that's about it. The rest of all the tutorials, mixing videos, demonstrations, commercial S1 learning courses, etc are all heavily leaning towards people who're recording audio and post-process audio: i.e. guitars, singers and other instrumentalists.

Yeah, the workflow is obviously very different from the traditional linear sequencers. In my experience, people tend to either click with the alpha-numeric tracker sequencer paradigm or don't click with it at all; there's seldom a middle road.

In general terms, I see that people who grew up using trackers on the Amiga, Atari, Commodore 64 and later PC platforms in the 80's and 90's (when they were de facto tools for the game industry and demoscene) tend to be more open about using a modern tracker today. For most other people, however, it's an alien kind of workflow that simply takes too much time to master properly.
