I purchased two Presonus USB Interfaces, one for some old bandmates in another state and one for myself. I also bought my old bandmates a new laptop and installed S1 on it from the disc that came with the Presonus I bought for them. I registered S1 on both my computer and their new laptop with the same user name and password (mine).
Is there anything else I need to do before I activate a SoundCloud account and start exporting and importing files?
We are all Dinosaurs from the late 70's and none of us is exactly "Computer Program Savvy" if you will, we have just started recording some basic tracks separately in the past few days. Note: I am heading over to the SounCloud Blog as soon as I post this.

There shouldn't be. But in terms of tranferring files, I don't think you want to use soundcloud. Soundcloud will convert to MP3, so there will be a loss of quality everytime you transfer a file. That is if I understand you correctly that your goal is to collaborate remotely.
Look into Windows SkyDrive, or a Dropbox account. They will allow the tranfer of large files in the original format. Goolge also has a similar service.

Zippyshare works well for large file transfers and also, like Soundcloud, provides a player for audio
files BUT it lets you play .wav files not just .mp3's.

AFAIK SoundCloud only converts to mp3 for streaming. When you enable the download feature the files can be downloaded in the original format that has been uploaded, e.g. .wav.

Didn't know that, but then again I run WHS from my house so I don't use it all that much.

for Dropbox. I'm a video editor (by day) and I transfer HUGE files (much larger than audio) and I couldn't do it without Dropbox.
If you install the app, you'll be notified every time an update is made by one of your bandmates. I just finished a project where files were going back and forth while each was working in a remote location.

Thanks for the responses and good info. I will definitely look into DropBox and the others before I spend any money. We are pretty excited about this and are very grateful for the help. At 56 I'm a little behind the power curve! I will probably have to tap you guys for knowledge a few more times before we get familiar enough with this stuff to do it on our own without help. Boy, things sure have changed since we last recorded together on a four-track Tascam cassette recorder! I will make sure the other guys get on this forum and get involved.

Yes... DropBox is hands down the easiest way to collaborate remotely. I hope they work w/ S1 on a possible Dropbox client. It's that awesome lol.
Just copy your project folder to a shared Dropbox folder and you're done.
Also... make sure you each have the same plugins installed on your computer if you use 3rd party VSTs. If not... you can export musicloops and save the session as a music loop so at least your bandmates can work with the audio. That's something i think only S1 can do.
