intermittant whooshing noise

I got my firestudio yesterday and it works well exept for an intermittant pulsating whooshing sound that comes out of my analog outputs. You can see the steady bouncing in the Master meters up to -21.
I seem to be able to get the sound started when I plug a mic into any input, but sometimes it'll happen on it's own. I've tried several different cables, all of good quality (belden with switchcraft or neutrik XLRs). It's not phantom power related since I hear it with dynamic and condenser mics.
My power is cleaned by my surge protector, so that shouldn't be it. Has anyone had a similar problem?

earlier, there were some posts on a "heartbeat" noise coming from the firestudio... they tracked it down to an older incarnation of the firestudio, and if this is what you're hearing, you may be able to get a replacement very soon if you just contact presonus tech support. techsupport@presonus.com

Yes, a heartbeat is definitely close to what I hear. Sort of like the swooshy sound of a baby's heartbeat during an ultrasound. Well, something like that. I emailed tech support with an MP3 I made of the sound to see if they are familiar with that symptom.

Dont worry Tech support will take care of you, I had the same problem with the heartbeat,they sent me out a replacement and it only took 2 days to get from there to cincinnati ohio and this one is super quiet!

I'm not so sure about it being related to old units. I have it happening with firmware 1.04 and 1.05 units.

I had the same problem after replacements.

On my 3rd unit. I changed some settings on my macbook and it got rid of most of the noise. I still have the wooshing at 96khz, along with clicks and pops at random. It clicks constantly when not recording, just playing back. Audio also bleeds through to other tracks. I can record on Input 1 and it comes through all the other inputs.


I'm a fan of the firepod and had no issues with it but the FireStudio just is inconsistent at best.

Thanks Dave, and everybody else too. Tech support emailed me back saying that they will send me a new unit. As you've all stated, this seems to be an issue that they're familiar with. Hmmm, I wonder what this does to my 14 day return policy at Guitar Center?
Jyme, that's a little scary. I hope that this is not typical of these units!
