i've a 2.4 MBP running 10.4.9 and logic 8.

a few seconds after connecting the FSP,
the MBP often gets the creeping grey screen of death,
requiring a hard restart.

this has happened both when connecting the FW cable with the FSP powered up,
and with connecting the cable, *then* powering up the FSP.

i've seen allusions to bad FW chipsets in recent MBP's and iMacs.
EDIT: i've just seen other posts supporting this in your, and apple's, forums.
i'm forming a mob and marching to Cupertino...

also having the much reported, and little answered exclamation point FireControl issue.
FireControl seems to finally work after starting/quitting it 4 times.
hmm...

thanks,

i just looked at my system.log and found:

FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8025 built-in now active...

i guess that means i have the TI chipset, not the dreaded Agere.

well then... why am i having these problems with the FSP?

EDIT:
just checked panic.log and found this recurring:
