I got my macbook pro working with the firestudio project, with no crackle of doom.
My solution was to buy a SIIG firewire expresscard and hook the FSP up through that.
I ran a Logic loop overnight at 48k - in the A.M. all was well, I still had good audio. [Although Logic wasn't quite right, the tracks were out of sync with each other.]
I ran itunes all night, again in the morning everything was good.
I realize that's not full testing, but it does seem to be the solution.
The card runs around $80. The SIIG part # is NN-EC2012-S1 .
I have to thank Presonus tech support and to chide them.
On PC systems Presonus has recommended firewire interfaces that use the TI firewire chipset. I contacted SIIG tech support to ask if they used the TI chipset on this card - they said yes. I called Presonus to get their opinion on whether or not this would work, and they said yes.
So - thanks to Presonus for the help in that respect.
However: I am wondering why Presonus didn't test this out and at least suggest it as a solution?
