I cannot get my firestudio project's midi in port to be detected.

A little background:

I had a lot of issues getting my new firestudio project to work correctly without drop outs and crackles. The only thing that cured it was a complete over haul of my PC. I removed all of the pci cards (Audigy 2 Platnium, WinTV PCI Card, SIIG Firewire Card) from my PC and disabled all unnecessary things in BIOS (Onboard Sound, Onboard SATA, Serial/Parallel ports, etc.) to free up system resources. I then did a fresh install of windows XP with just my agp Geforce 7800 video card installed. I tweaked windows XP with all of the popular DAW tweaks and then updated windows via windows update. I then installed the firewire hotfix and then my SIIG texas instruments chipset firewire card. I installed Acid Pro 6.0d and found that most of my popping and drop outs were gone, adjusting the pci latency on BIOS from 32 to 248 and adjusting the buffer size in FireControl to 512 pretty much eliminated any drop outs from occurring.

After a few hours of testing by recording 6 channels of drums I was pretty satisfied but found that I had no midi in or out ports when I went to test my keyboard. I then searched these forums and found a post were a user corrected this issue by uninstalling and reinstalling the firestudio drivers, then turning on the firestudio with a midi keyboard plugged in and turned on. I tried this and found that only the MIDI Out port was detected but I still have no MIDI in port.

I had the same issue with my macbook with leopard. I sent mine into repair, and hopefully when i get it back, it will work...

The Leopard thing is a known issue (Apple changed the extension of the MIDI bundle...nice)

Cubber: We've done a lot of MIDI testing on the PC end (because of the Apple issue) I haven't seen this. Contact techsupport@presonus.com please.

Thanks for the reply,

I have tried calling tech support about this issue many times but can never get through to anyone, last time I tried I was stuck on hold waiting for over an hour. I have also left 2 voice mails on the tech support line for call backs with no return phone calls.

I sent out an email to the address you provided, hopefully I can get this resolved soon, I am becoming very dissatisfied with this product fast! I have spent almost a week working on it in my free time just to get it running without drop outs, a week of which could have been spent recording!

I have not received a reply from tech support yet about my midi issue. I also tried to call them on the phone again last night 2x but was on hold for almost an hour each time before I gave up and just hung up. I would like to know if this thing is defective before my time runs out to return it to where I bought it.

Ok so I finally got my replacement firestudio project back yesterday, and the midi in port is now recognized. However I can not get it to see my midi keyboard.

Before when I just used a sound blaster audigy 2 platnium I would plug the midi out of the keyboard into the midi in of the audigy and I could play the keyboard and the recording program would play the sounds and record what I was playing. This is not the case through the firestudio.

Is there some extra setup steps that need to be done to get the firestudio project to pass the midi data from the keyboard to the application?

Cubber,

What sequencer are you using, Acid 6?

You might want to download MidiOX, it's a great all purpose MIDI Swiss army
knife that may help you trace the problem.

I figured it all out, I needed to set up a vst instrument in order to hear my keyboard. Everything works great.

Hey Clancy,

I am having trouble seeing my midi keyboard as well.

I took the midi out from my keyboard to the midi input on my firestudio project and I get random flashes of input on the front of the FSP and I cant get Sonar to see the input of the midi anywhere. I also cant see in the FSP mixer control panel.

Can you help me understand what to do and how to hook this up to record midi correctly.

Thanks

Fred

Dual Core Not Recognizing MIDI on Firepod

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would really like some detailed info. Just got a dual core laptop. Using XP. It is a dual boot. Inside Vista, it recognizes all midi devices. However in XP it does not recognize any midi devices AT ALL. Read some posts about deleting an upper registry but not exactly sure about specifically if it refers to the ones that pop in the right hand side of the screen or delete the whole subdirectory.
I have confirmed that it is a windows problem, not the firepod or cubase as my desktop application works beautifuuly. Thanks in advance for a detailed response.

Thanks!
