I got a Firestudio Project about a week ago and I am having a hell of a time! For some reason this thing just seems to hate Sonar 7 P.E. When I record and then play back it is just constant pops and clicks.
Also I opened a few projects that had already been recorded and played them back... seems fine for a minute and then just stops and seems like the computer is almost frozen. Never says it had a dropout or anything. Everything just becomes extremely sluggish and can't continue.
I am able to record decently with Cubase SX3 but to be honest I hate cubase and was wondering if any of you know what could be causing this?
Also My CPU and RAM don't seem to be too taxed, so I don't see it being either of those.
Any help would be great, I'm going Nuts!:(

Are you using ASIO or WDM.
I think WDM is better with Sonar.
If you haven't, try that and please tell us how they work for you.
Good luck

I am using WDM for sonar. Never got that issue resolved, but I did reload my old Sonar 6 PE and it works fine. I have no clue what the problem is but I guess for now I'll just unload 7 and keep using 6. Sucks to spend money to upgrade to a newer version only to have to go back just so my new toy will work.
Thanks for the reply btw!

That is very strange!!
I use sonar 7.1 PE and everything worked fine except for sonar didn't recognized the FSP at any sample rate but 44.1 and 48 Khz and that the unit that I got came with two channels (preamps) defective.
I returned it and they sent me a new one that is coming in a couple of days.
Other than that, the time that I spent with it I really liked it, no pops and clicks and that kind of stuff.
Have you installed the firewire fixes mentioned in this thread?

I really hope you get your problem solved, good luck!!

Are you getting all of the inputs using WDM drivers?
When I was using WDM drivers Sonar 6 would only show 1 stereo L&R input.
The phone tech from presonus had me change to the ASIO drivers.
Sonar then showed all of the inputs, and I thought I was in like Flynn, but since then playback has been plagued with dropouts.
The techs at presonus and I still working on it, and I am trying to remain confident that we will get this unit working well enough to get some recording done, but it has been 30 days since purchase, and it seems I've been working on this issue the whole time.

Ok, heres what you have to do to in order to have all inputs showed in sonar usin wdm drivers:
1. Go to tha presonus installation folder: C:\Program Files\PreSonusFirestudio.
2. Locate the file PaeFirestudioCpl and double click it.
Now I have to do it by memory because I' am at work and the FSP is not connected so I can't open the PaeFirestudioCpl.
3. In the bottom of the window there are two selectors, select direct out in both.
I will double check later to see what exactly the options are but more or less you have the idea.
Let me know if it works for you.
Good luck

I have to use Safe 1 mode with buffer set to 512. I then put 256 in the buffer setting for Sonar 6 and use ASIO.
I did a number of xp settings based on what presonus sent me. Also there is a bunch of suggested XP performance settings on the sweetwater knowledge base. The key for me was the safe mode and buffers. I now get pops and clicks and freezes at times changing plugin settings but other then that its alot better. I am also able to run iTunes and sonar at the same time.

Ok, heres what you have to do to in order to have all inputs showed in sonar usin wdm drivers:
1. Go to tha presonus installation folder: C:\Program Files\PreSonusFirestudio.
2. Locate the file PaeFirestudioCpl and double click it.
The PreSonusFirestudio folder will not open to allow me to locate the file PaeFirestudioCpl.
I reinstalled the software thinking I might be missing something but still "no open seseme.

What do you mean will not open??
Do you have administrator privilegies??
Of course I have admin privs.
I go to start>programs>PreSonus FireStudio> and then there are five icons
1. FireStudio Control Console
2. FireStudio Control Control Panel
3. Presonus Fire Studio
4. Unistall PreSonus FireStudio
5. Update FireStudio Firmware
I can double click any of them and the window closes and no other window opens.
But.....
While I was on hold with PreSonus about firewire card selection, I reinstalled the software from the CD ROM.
After fooling around with latence settings and such, I believe I actually have a usable program!
It still drops out if I move the EQ settings too fast, but I keep the Windows Task Manager open to monitor the cpu usage and 'keep it under 100'.
It seems to be working well enough not to cancel tomorrows session.:)
