Hi everybody,
I just received a brand new Firestudio project and I have to say it is really great.
I am having a problem though, preamps 3 and 4 make a lot of noise when i connect something to them and I hear no signal.
I get this behavior even with the unit disconnected from the computer.
I read somewhere that the FSP has an internal memory that remembers the last routing configuraion in order to use it without a computer and that makes me think that may be I have something not routed correctly.
I think that when I plugged for the first time, it worked flawlessly.
Please help me because even though I just have hourdys with the unit, I love it already!!!
Thaks in advance for your help.
By the way, even tough my problem doesnt seem related to a DAW because it happens with the unit unplugged from the computer, I use the following:
Intel 3.0 HT with 1 GB Ram PC and
Core 2 Duo 1.8 with 1 GB Ram Laptop.
Sonar 7.1 (using wdm with no issues)

I think this post is what you're looking for http://www.presonus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3628
I know I read another post that someone found a FSP Control Panel file in the folder C:\Program Files\PreSonus that can configure the inputs and outputs but I can't find the post.
I'll reply again If I find the other post.

Thanks Lou!!
Actually I have tried that already but my problem is not related to my DAW, everything is working fine there.
Problem is that channels 3 and 4 make a lot of noise, even when the unit is not connected to my daw and I canīt hear anything connected to them (line level or mic signals) just noise.
In fact, when I turn up the level knob in either of this two channels, the meter lights turn on and gradually off (and this does't happen on the other 6 channels)
Do you think that preamps 3 and 4 are damaged?? or as I hope is a problem of bad routing somewhere in the FSP software??
Thanks again guys!!

based on what you're saying, i would believe that the pre's are damaged. I would suggest to exchange your unit asap (before your dealer's exchange period expires) as most manufacturers exchange with refurbished equipment when the initial exchange period has expired.

I have discovered another issue, when trying to reprofile the FSP in sonar 7, it just recognize it as a 44.1Khz 48Khz unit and not as a 88.2 and 96 Khz.
That is very strange do you know what is wrong with my unit??
Please help, I'am starting to feel nervous about my FSP being a defective unit!!
Thanks gain!!

Sonico,
I just got my FSP from Guitar Center w/ the 3 year Performance Guarantee, which I always get b/c nothing has ever made it to the 3 year mark and they have always refunded my Purchase price minus the tax and price of the Performance Guarantee.
I also use Sonar 6 and 7, so if you want me to test anything out to see if mine does the same thing, let me know.

Thanks a lot GoMetalBoy,
Does Sonar wave profiler recognize the FSP as a 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96 KHz because mine just passed the 44.1 and 48 test on several atempts.
The other thing is the channels 3 and 4 making just noise and turning the meters on just by turning the knobs even when nothing is connected.
If you try this I'd really appreciate it.
I think that I got a defective unit, so if nobody here tell me that I'am doing something wrong, it's going back to musician's friend to get another one.
Thanks again

The noise and meter behavior are a symptom of a floating node somewhere. In other words, a bad solder joint or a bent pin on the amp IC that keeps it from making contact, so current that should see a low impedance path instead has to discharge through leakage.
You'll have to return it to PreSonus for repair or get your dealer to swap it.

Thanks Briney Eye,
A new FSP is on it's way, I hope it arrives friday.
I hope everything work fine now because I really liked the FSP.

Sonico,
Sorry it took me so long to reply. All my inputs and outputs work and Sonar 7 seems to like the FSP so far. When I ran the wave profiler it recognized the FSP as 44.1 and 48 also. All my Sonar projects are in 44.1K @ 16bit and I didn't want to mess w/ the FSP too much b/c it was working perfectly.
I'm going to play around w/ the FSP and Sonar 7 again tonight. I'm going to see if there is a difference between the WDM and ASIO drivers. I think I will have to change a setting in PaeFireStudioCpl.exe or PreSonus FireControl.exe

Thanks GotMetalBoy,
My new (replacing) FSP is arriving tomorrow and I hope everything works well this time.
I received an answer from presonus saying that the unit I got the first time is in fact a defective unit.
I' am worried about sonar recognizing the FSP at 44.1/48 only and not 88.2/96 (not that I use these sample rates now but is good to have them just in case.
If someone else got the FSP recgnized by sonar with all the sample rates using wdm (maybe that is the problem) please report.
Thanks again guys!!
