I'm seriously thinking about getting the new Firestudio Project. My only concern is that I'm using vista32 and I'm not going back to XP. right now i have an Edirol FA-66 that works great with vista. I dont want to go back wards in performance with a new sound card/interface..
Who has had any experience with this interface and Vista?? And with Sonar also
Thanx,
Cj

the only thing that i know about vista right now is that not a lot is compatable with it...so far everything works great with the interface just not with sonar...:(...i could try tweaking my system to try and make it work but for me right now its just not worth the time or effort...ill just wait till the new driver comes out which should hopefully fix the problem

I haven't been able to get the older FireStudio to do anything with my new Vista32 machine. Auto Update doesn't recognize the machine at all, and I can't install the old drivers bc Vista tells me it's not for this os. I'm not a computer hack so maybe there's a way around this I don't know about, but I'm also dealing with the 26x26 Firestudio, not Project. No other problems from Vista so far, just a lack of drivers from PS. They're due any day now, if you haven't heard....

Thanx for the replies. Im getting great performace with the Edirol FA-66 in Vista32, but i need more inputs. I hope someone has specific info on the Firestudio Project. I'm really not intersted in the other interfaces. its either this, that im not sure about or the Motu mkll that has been proven to provide good performance with vista32.

Hey, I had to post a followup for you... I just today tried to install the driver that's on the Presonus downloads page, and it worked. I dont' know what changed, or maybe I'd always tried to install it from the CD, but It plays back in Audition fine. Look at my new thread for details about working with the Windows drivers, and I'll keep it posted with how it works for me.

EVERYONE READ NOW:

The FireStudio Project is compatible both with Leopard and Vista.

The FireStudio 26x26 will be made compatible with Leopard and Vista shortly.

The FireStudio Project and the FireStudio 26x26 are not the same product. They do not use the same firmware or driver version.

FireStudio 26x26 users, please stop misinforming FireStudio Project users.

CJay clearly stated he has a FireStudio Project not a FireStudio 26x26.

Read my post today.

There is a problem with the Firestudio Project's Vista driver. They told me today that they are planning to come out with a new one in a few weeks because the driver that they now have is actually a unverisal XP/Vista driver. But I'm not waiting, especially since the return period will run out before that. The thing will NOT work properly on my Vista 32-bit comptuer - either midi or audio! And I tried it with Cubase and SONAR. Mine is going back to the store. Looking at a Tascam USB model now.

Good luck.

Hi Wesley, I don't want to be overly critical here, but I found your post rather rude. The confusion is presonus fault, not ours.

There is a single firestudio forum, both products are called firestudio and one of them doesn't work with vista or leapord. Your existing customers, many of whom have been waiting quite a while now for a vista / leapord driver for their firestudio, are not the tech support department and are hardly to blame if they happen to answer questions posted on this forum about an almost identically named new product incorrectly.

I use a Firestudio Project with Windows Vista 32 and a SIIG Firewire Card with the VIA chipset. It works flawlessly. I got the unit about a month ago and have recorded 40+ hours of 8-track music without any problems with the hardware or software. Just remember to turn off your screen saver when recording...

The rig I'm currently using is my desktop computer, specs as follows:
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo E6600
Motherboard: MSI 975x Platinum
Memory: 4GB OCZ 800Mhz DDR2
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit
Firewire Card: SIIG w/VIA chipset - from Frys
DAW: CuBase LE
Graphics: EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB

I've ordered a Dell Inspiron 1720 since my old laptop died, it should be here in a week or so. I'm going to attempt to use that for mobile recording with the Firestudio Project and CuBase LE. It's a Core2 T7700 with 2GB RAM and Windows Vista Home Premium, I'll let ya know how that works out.

THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE VISTA FIRESTUDIO PROJECT DRIVER, NOT ON MY SYSTEM AT LEAST

Yea stop it...LOL and dont worry, i get that theres a communication error here. too many hot heads here!!!
Im only talking about the firestudio project and nothing else. I have no worries about it working on my system. Ive been around the block with pc recording and i know how to read between the lines on these forums.
I'm just wondering why i Asked a question about one specific interface and then i get replies from people with a different model telling me it doesnt work.
Read my post again. anyways, im getting the interface this weekend and when i have it hooked up, ill let you all know how it goes.
Thanx again,
Cj

I'd be careful with sonar man, there's a lot of posts on this site that say it's difficult to use with the Presonus interfaces at best and impossible at worst.

Kudos to you for not going back to XP. I think Vista rules.

Im all over the sonar forum and the Project studio had different drivers than the other pre sonus interfaces. also, alot of the difficulties are with the configuration in sonar (user error) and the people who post in forums are people with problems. You will never see a post saying, hey dude, my set up is working great. So, these forums only represent a very very small fraction of the users. If every single user of pre sonus and sonar had problems, there would be 10's of thousands of postings. you have to take everything into context and consider the sourse of this info. Off hand i know over 20 users of sonar and pre sonus that have zero problems.
Also, if it doesnt work, ill return it. But what is the gain of not trying it atleast? and from what you said, these people are not using the Firestudio Project, there using the firepod or firestudio that has different drivers. This card that im getting in brand new and i havent seen one comment in sonar on it. so your comparring 2 or 3 different against the one im asking about.

Update, i just recieved the Firestudio Project and i hooked it up and its running great with sonar 7 producer. Its works great with Vista32bit.
I'm using driver 3.0.0.70 and its in WDM driver mode. I'm able to record with 1.8ms and playback huge 80 plug track projects with over 50 vst'a at 25ms latency setting. The sound is clear with no artifacts or pops/glitches when zooming in and out real fast or doing oyther graphic editing. Its working great
Vista32 + Pre-sonus Rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mark I disagree - Wesley stated just the facts! Its not like anyone has used the generic term "firestudio" in this post, he said firestudio project! Wesley is trying to use bold text to tell everyone to read more carefully, but you seem to have missed the point.

I have one issue with the inputs, its only listing one channel (left, right, stereo)
When i went into sonar to define the inputs, there was only one channel to choose from, there wasnt a list of like 1,3,5, and 7. So, i cant record 2 to 8 inputs at the same time. Everything is defined correctly in sonar, but in sonar it only gives me one channel to define and that leads to only recording one channel at a time. I unistalled and re-installed the current drivers and still its the same. It only gives me one stereo channel.

CJ, see this thread about PaeFireStudioCpl.exe
You have to set "in" and "out" to "direct" to view all ins and out in WDM.

I like the Firestudio Project...
I wish the 64 bit driver would soon be released..
That's the only thing holding me back right now..
