Bought the Presonus FP10 today and was told , easy, out of the box.
Right
I'm a network professional and i have not had such a pain in the butt installing some new toy as I have today. The wind out of my sails all the fun out of it..

Tried installing the firewire drivers. I get to the point where it asks you to turn on the unit and then two new hardware devices pop up

ac/v audio
ac/v subunit

When i try to install these two devices it fails.
Tried removing them from device manager ( XP ) and then reboot. same problem.
Tried Installing a Microsoft patch and then edit the registry, still no good.
Tried going into my bios and tweaking the settings for the 1394 controller. Removed my existing sound card, enabled it disabled it.
I dont know what else I've can try. This really sucks.

I have NOT had this many problems with installing a PC board or new device since windows 3.1 .. I wonder if this product was QA?

Would love to hear a fix or back it goes to the store.

This cant be that hard...

It's really not that hard. Try posting your system specs and maybe someone with a similar set up will have a fix for you.

As a fellow network professional, I urge you to quit whining and solve the problem ;)

Have u

1) tried a different pci firewire card
2) downloaded latest drivers off web
3) tried the fp10 on a different box
4) tried another firewire device (hard drive, camcorder) with your onboard firewire
5) tried a different firewire cable

If no joy, post your specs....could be a compatibility issue, but isolate the problem first...

Definitely post your specs, that makes a big difference.

I had the same problem. I tried everything and couldn't get the FP10 drivers to install. These comments about wining always seem to come from people that didn't buy a 400 dollar door stop. I suspect if they had shelled out their money and had a useless peice of gear they wouldn't be so quick to advise. I never did get a reply or any support from Presonus dispite many emails and phone calls. After 6 weeks I have come to believe Presonus does not have any tech support.

However I was able to get the FP10 to work (for the most part) after downloading and installing the Firepod drivers rather than the FP10 drivers. You might try that and see if you can use your FP10 for something other than a paper weight.

okay okay...come on...I followed up the epigram with some useful things to try...besides, as a fellow network professional, one should be used to fellow colleagues barbs...

I think the original poster is gone. He complained in another post and hasn't resurfaced.

Here is the scoop. I edited my post to reflect a positive note with Presonus. A technical support person by the name of Wesley called me today. A very informative and curteous person. She told me that the firmware in the FP10 needed to be updated.
She sent me the firmware update, I installed it using the Firepod drivers to sync the unit up.
I uninstalled all the previous drivers and then rebooted my PC. Once restarted I installed the FP10 drivers and it detected without any issues.
I'm going to try to use Sonar to see if everything is up and working.
Once they contacted me communication was good. But I'm hoping presonus posts something for new owners about the firmware update. Such and easy fix, but had to go through hoops to find out.
Quite frustrating to say the least.
