just wondering if it's safe to run a little converter to switch from the FP10's 6-pin firewire port to my notebook's little 4-pin port?

thanks.

The only difference between a 4 pin and 6 pin fire wire is the 6 pin version is bus powered so you wont need a power supply. So just get a 4 pin to 6 pin adapter or cable that is already 4 to 6 pin and hook up a power supply to the FP10's power input port and put a switch in line on the power supply out put cable or simply hook it up to a power strip and turn it off and on that way.

I use a 6-4 pin when I use my Firepod with my laptop. No problems. I have read that with some Tascam firewire interfaces you have to use a 6-6 cable.
Since we are talking about Presonus there shouldn't be an issue.
BTW I have used both the Firebox and the Firepod with a 4-6 cable with my laptop's built in Firewire and never had a single issue.
