Hello,

I'm thinking of buying a firestudio project to go with my Macpro laptop + Logic 8.

I frequently travel around the world for my job (namely between Europe and the USA) and would like to know if I can use the Firestudio in different countries simply by changing the power cable (i.e. no power adapter) or if I need to buy an adapter, etc.

The question is perhaps lame and obvious, but I know nothing about electricity and can't seem to remember the most basic of things...

In any case, thanks for your help.

Voltage in Europe is higher than the US (120V in the US, 220V in Europe), and runs at a different frequency as well (60 Hz in US, 50Hz in Europe). Swapping only a power cable risks frying your unit, and possibly anything connected to it. I could be wrong: The voltage range labeled on the back of the FSP is 110-240V, though that may just be the fuse.

my firestudio that i got in the US works fine in the UK with just a uk figure of 8 cable in place of the US one. the input voltage is 110 - 240v. I expect the firestudio project is the same.

Yeah, I would love to hear some official confirmation on that. After all Madonna used PreSonus gear in France, and I doubt that even with the dough she has, she’s buying different gear in every country she goes to.

There is also discrepancy in the manual. On the unit and on the page 24 of the manual (chapter 3.3, Back Panel Layout) it shows “100 240VAC ~20W”, but on the page 28 of the manual (chapter 4.2, Specifications) it says “Input voltage range: 90 to 230 VAC”.

P. S. And another thing that is not clear to me. I know that FireBox can run power off of the 6-pin FireWire connection, but is there enough juice to power all 8 FireStudio preamps on the data cable alone? What if I daisy-chain 2 units?
