Ok so I just a got a new Firestudio Project

- hooked it up to my new pair of Rokit 6CL Studio Monitors and
- brand new HP XW8400 Workstation with 4gb of ram, 2 10,000 RPM 150GB Raptors and Dual 3.0 GHZ Xeon Processors
- I'm running windows vista business 32bit

So I started to record. Recorded my guitar and amp with a shure sm57 beta and started having problems.

- Cubase would freeze and would not respond.
- When it did respond it would freeze and dropout during playbacks
- When I would use windows media player to watch DVD's or Play Music the audio would suddenly stop playing through my studio monitors and randomly eithier turn back on or I would have to pop the dvd out and put it back in to retreive the audio, but other times I just couldn't get the audio to come back on at all.

I've been reading around the forums a bit and seeing that other people were experiencing similer problems but have yet to read about a solution or a fix.
This is unacceptable.

I would appreciate any suggestions, comments, or questions.

Thanks!

Ok say just an update: I reformatted my computer, reinstalled cubase and new firestudio project drivers, and tried doing some recording. Still doing the same thing!
Is there any other kind of configurations that need to be made?

Can some please offer some advice or suggestions?

Thanks!

From what I hear, the Cubase version that ships with Presonus products has issues with Vista, even with the new Vista drivers.

Yeah cubase does not run well for me! It's always freezing up and stopping!
That doesn't explain my audio problems when I'm doing other things on my computer though. Like watching dvd's or listening to music...it just all of a sudden loses the audio and will eithier come back on randomly or never come back on at all.

I've seen some similar issues when you have virus, spyware, or a wireless card enabled. Just a thought...

Did you download and install the latest drivers from the drivers page, version 3.3.1 I think.

For now, open firecontrol and set the audio buffer to 1024, under the Firecontrol menu find the menuse that has "safe modes" and set it to safe mode 1. (it's just an additional output buffer)

try that, see if playback smooths out.

What Firewire chipset do you have?

Make sure you have a VIA or TI Firewire chipset.
If you are using cubase le, update it (version 4.1.2 oficially supports vista)

I would ignore the comment above, The FSP WORKS IN XP AND VISTA WITH CUBASE, SONAR, ETC. AND ACTUALLY IT WORKS VERY VERY WELL!!!!!!

You just have to take the time to confugure your computer, and you have to do that with every audio interface you have.

The blind leading the blind.

I am sure it works well, if you can get them to work at all. A little presonus support would be nice. I was not asking for much. My stance is still the same.
