I got a Presonus BlueTube preamp. When I plugged one mic using one cable in, it worked fine recording into my computer. I tried a different mic cable and now there's a lot of background noise... whatever mic & mic cable I use. It happened on both channels... was that cable just faulty and caused a blown tube/fuse/whatever and how do I fix it?

It's fine when I plug in my guitar... the mic is a Shure SM 58.

Thanks!

What interface were you plugging the outputs of the BlueTube into?

Ensure you are NOT plugging the output of the BlueTube into another preamp (usually via XLR). Additionally, ensure even more that if you are plugging into a preamp that the Phantom Power is OFF on that preamp.

At this point, even if you switch back to the original mic and cable into the BlueTube the same noise is occurring?

It's plugged directly into my laptop's soundcard through the unbalanced 1/4" out. and yes, i get the same noise when switching back to the original mic & cord.

So wait... you plug a guitar into the bluetube, and everything's normal?
